CUSA Vote on cost of Attendance
Just heard that CUSA voted and officially approved the new cost of attendance measure for the league. As a result, estimated additional costs for each school could be in the 5-800k minimum range per year. Haven't seen an official release yet but it should be coming soon.

I think the end result will mean some schools cutting out non revenue sports to the bare minimum requirements of staying D-1.

Good question. I wonder how many CUSA schools are already at that point now though?

I'd actually love for that to happen. Too bad the ole Title IX gets in the way.

I really dont know. I'm guessing that if there isnt any room to cut sports then it will likely fall back on the Athletic Department to raise the funds to make it possible. If that doesn't work then my guess is that some schools in the G5 conferences will have to find a way to make it happen or be forced to drop down a level. From what I understand, CUSA adopted the measure with the understanding that CUSA members must participate in cost of attendance to keep membership in CUSA. I'm sure other G5 conferences will have the same or similar agreements.

Per the UTSA AD newsletter, CUSA is going to allow schools to decide on their own and not have a conference mandate.

That's what I remember hearing previously. ODU has said they'd like to provide a cost of living stipend on a need basis.

If you're in the league and you don't you might as well admit that you no longer want to compete.

Every school in the league will do it.

RE: CUSA Vote on cost of Attendance
There are lots of options short of dropping down. For instance, revising the cost of attendance numbers that apply to ones school (that would make the amount added to the scholarship for FCOA lower---say $2,200 instead of $4-5K). A school can also decide which athletes will receive the stipend. Or a school can simply offer a partial stipend. Stipends could be needs tested (as suggested above) or partially offset by Pell Grants. As far as costs go, the CFP is paying nearly every school 1 million more than they used to get from the BCS. The money should be there to at least do something with respect to the FCOA.

Well that doesn't mak any sense. If that's the case, then why even have a vote on it???

Well, I guess the conference could have voted that no one in C-USA will pay the stipend or all have to but in this case it allows schools to choose. Same as the MWC. Not exactly uniform but that can't be the case anywhere since cost of living varies so much.
