One would think that the huge deficits Charlotte faces nearly every game would result in changing to a zone to start the game.

WTH did not the new coach use the opportunity to TRY to change how you guys start games?

Really impressed with your team Charlotte.
Don't want to play the return game.
Happy with the victory. We ground it out for the win.

So happy to be in CUSA!

We actually started well on offense tonight. Better than usual anyway. It was more than negated though by the fact that we let WKU light it up from 3.

This was the first time in the last 12 games that we did not trail at half time.

Thanks. It helps that the arena was built exclusively for basketball.

Wow that Dorian guy is on a freshman, he looked all world tonight...49ers definitely more physical than we were in the paint with our two soft Euro bigs getting pushed around like rag dolls, haha...Very impressed with Charlotte, really going to be tough to beat them end of the season on the road...I will take the win and hope we improve rebounding by Sat....

Really weird happenings going on at WKU, even though we are usually smaller than most teams, we usually hold our own rebounding and turn the ball over a ton....Lately our turnovers have gone down and we got killed on boards, its like its opposite day at WKU...

The 20 rebound advantage by Charlotte seems extremely odd for this WKU team, but after looking at the stats, we missed 6 more free throws than they did and free throws are almost always rebounded by the defense so that and the fact that we missed 20 three pointers, which are also more difficult for a defense that is boxing out under the rim for rebounds. That explains some of that disparity. The rest of the disparity is that Charlotte is good, big, and physical when matched up with WKU. Both teams missed 34 two point shots.

Fouls were 24 for Charlotte and 20 for WKU which is about right for a visiting and home team.

Charlotte's record is scary. They've lost to 6 teams with rpi's between 16 and 86 by an average of about 4-5 points. NOBODY should overlook Charlotte. Their schedule is currently ranked 10th in the nation.

Imagine if we didn't dig double digit deficits in the first half of every damn game. Incredibly frustrating for Charlotte faithful. I have no idea why we ever play man-to-man, we get lit up every time.

RE: Charlotte @ WKU
I think the biggest reason for rebounding disparity wasn't either of those factors. Having been at the game live it was a numbers and hustle game. WKU had 4 guys basically spread on perimeter with Charlotte in zone for most of the game. Charlotte kept 3 guys in middle pretty much at all times with WKU only having Fant banging down low. So when shot came off the rim the 49ers had 3 guys down low with position to only 1 for WKU. Plus they just flat out, out-hustled WKU on the glass plain and simple.

I don't think I've ever seen WKU lose on the boards that bad. In fact rebounding has been one of our staples for a while now. Turnovers and 3 pointers made are the difference in this game tonight.

The disparity was surprising considering how poorly we've rebounded as of late.

Thanks Rojo. I wasn't at the game so I only had stats to go by. Good first hand observations. How was the crowd on this COLD Thursday evening?

Let's all take a deep breath and enjoy the smell of good basketball games and good basketball talk. ODU was originally a BB only school, so such good and detailed discussion of games goes a long way with this fan.

We need to start thinking multiple bids for CUSA, and how as a conference we position ourselves to get there.

Crowd was loud at moments. Did their job when needed and gave the players some energy boosts at the end. Announce was around 3,600 I believe. But it looked like more then that to me. Student endzone was pretty bare. I would have guessed around 4,500 myself. Word is they are expecting big crowd for the game Saturday though.

Amen brother. Analysis of basketball games and talk of multiple bids are new to WKU fans, considering where we came from. It's refreshing and exhilarating.

So I guess you missed the 6'6 240 pound Fant and his 18 point, 11 rebounds and 3 block shots. But you are correct that the 6'11 guy was hard to stop by Rostov or Ben. But ...

the 2 bigs for Charlotte had 18 points and 14 rebounds on 8-13 shooting in a combined 47 minutes

Fant and JJ (6'7) combined for 21 points and 17 rebound on 6-12 shooting in 45 minutes

So who pushed who around?

Someone said Charlotte started out man to man and it might have looked that way but it was a zone with man to man principles. Charlotte was playing man to man on the ball out front but did not follow through on the cutters.

So it left shooter wide open because once the guard cut through the paint the Charlotte defender sagged inside to stop Fant.

Last night was the 12th game IN A ROW that Charlotte has trailed by 10 points. Eleven of those deficits have been in the first half.
We're digging ourselves holes we can't get out of. Meanwhile, the coaches don't seem to notice this trend and the freshmen come in at the 12minute mark down eight.
We're a bit of a dumpster fire.

Yeah Charlotte's coaches are insane. They keep doing the same thing that they know will land them in rear seat. If you know for sure, why do that if i were that new interim HC i would definitely make changes to get it working and let major know that that's how you make adjustments. The thing that worries me is they got kids with real good talent and the coaches are doing a sucky job with what they got.

Rostov and Lawson were out matched in this one, never said anything about Fant and JJ...THey played well thankfully or we would have gotten beaten...
