Most all will not be noticed until people file next year for tax return. Many tables are going from 15% to 39% brackets. This will be in Obama's last year in office and Elections taking place so the media probably will be blaming a republican controlled congress for the coming Recession from loss of spending power by consumers.

Dude...I make tax software for a living. I think you don't know what you're talking about.

Can you please link something that backs up whatever it is you're trying to say here.

I was just pointing that out to him to further prove how ridiculous his statement was. Nevermind that making that statement to begin with pretty clearly demonstrates that no, he doesn't understand the definitions of a recession.

And finally...who else could you assign blame to for the tanked economy and recession which started before Obama was elected?

That being said, I don't blame Bush alone...Congress (both parties) played right along in the fiasco.

Well I think that Presidents have very few tools at their disposal to truly effect the economy. I mean, would you give Bush credit for avoiding a depression and 9/11 and the record growth that took place in it's aftermath? Failing that I go with 'watch' theory that whatever happens while you were sitting in office you own, whether good or bad.

Do you mean congress (which was under the control of democrats) played right along in the fiasco?

Posted on the other thread, but germane to this conversation as well.

Interesting statistics:

January 2009, Barack Obama takes office with democrats controlling both houses of congress - unemployment rate = 7.8%
February 2009-January 2011, average number of jobs gained (lost) per month = (128,0000)
January 2011, republicans take control of house - unemployment rate 9.2%
February 2011-September 2013, average number of jobs gained (lost) per month = 187,000
October 2013, government shutdown - unemployment rate 7.2%
October 2013-December 2014, average number of jobs gained (lost) per month = 236,000
December 2014, unemployment rate = 5.6%

I see some interesting correlations there, and I can attribute causation. What do you think?

When jobs are lost everybody points their finger at everybody else but when they are gained everybody has the "this guy" look on their faces.

I was looking for a printed link but on mobile phone. You will love this but Yesterday on Rush Limbaugh show He gave a very long list of tax changes for 15 and 16 that change rates for many. Might be a podcast available.

Tax tables change every year because standard deductions and exemptions increase each year to account mainly for cost of living adjustments. But those aren't tax rates. Tax rates are the same they've been for years.

And the tax code changes all the time...some people will pay more taxes as a result and some won't. I'm sure Rush cherry picked the more taxes changes.

Sure they do. Most of it simply cyclical in nature and due to the business cycle. The POTUS should however not do schit to artificially create bubbles or to make them burst. There are minor things the Fed can do and policy tweaks that can spur modest growth. Beyond that? Doing nothing is most often times better than doing something.
