Looking at one player incident in a vacuum is the small picture here IMO.

This is just symptomatic of a much larger issue going all the way back to Niles, Garcia, Kendrick, et al.

Not the small picture, and true even if the grievances are legitimate. It's simply not the best way to deal with the situation.

With few exceptions, airing grievances with leadership on a forum like Twitter is immature, counterproductive, and more damaging to a person's own reputation than it is to the reputation of the one they're angry with.

It's a sign of immaturity, short-sightedness, and a lack of impulse control. It demonstrates an inability or unwillingness to take the long view and see the big picture regarding their own career. And if you do what KI and Spoon did, you're advertising on your own social media pages that you have these traits.

In pretty much any business, people like to work with high-integrity folks they can trust. Public criticism of a coach on Twitter is backstabbing, plain and simple. Nobody likes a backstabber. It's the fastest way to make yourself radioactive. Then you sit and wonder why you're seeing others of lesser ability get the opportunities instead...

This

It's not gonna hurt pastner he is set for life, it hurts the players and the school. Nobody wants a malcontent. Be a man and move on.

When was the last time a player bad mouthing a coach propelled them to stardom.

If every single player on the team simultaneously criticized Pastner on Twitter, it's my opinion that they'd still all be making themselves look bad more than they'd be making Pastner look bad.

Agree to disagree.

It doesn't bother me as much you.

I'm much more disturbed by the bigger issues hanging over the basketball program right now.

It's over. The only question is how long before it's put out of its misery

Some jobs will open out west in the offseason - he just needs to take one and part with a handshake and we can all move on.

Yep, which this twitter-bashing is a symptom of.
This is from Calkins' column this morning & pretty much sums it up, I'd say:

"So if you’re inclined to dismiss Wednesday’s twittering as the meaningless mutterings of a couple basketball players whose careers did not work out at Memphis, there is some justification for that.

And yet, this doesn’t feel meaningless, does it?
It feels more like a variation on a larger theme:

1. Pastner recruits talented player to Memphis.
2. For whatever reason, talented player has a disappointing end.
3. Talented player transfers (Tarik Black) or drops to the second round (Will Barton) or isn’t drafted at all (Adonis Thomas, Joe Jackson) or you get the general idea.

So, no, this isn’t about Iverson, per se. This is about a trend. That’s why the tweets resonated the way they did Wednesday. It was about the message, not the messenger.

It's the players' faults for choosing to put it on social media.....but the fact that this type of issue exists, and seems to be an ongoing one, is the ultimate problem, and that lies at the feet of the coach.

I can feel that way, though, and still think it's irresponsible, unwise behavior on the part of the kids.

Yep

Actually the BBQ is now allowed under NCAA rules.....

He is a real rule breaker! wow

you idiots don't get it......he is a choir boy compared to Cal and I think everyone loved the run with cal

Careful who you call an idiot. Pearl was spanked for lying, getting his assistants to lie, and attempting to get a recruit and his father to lie.
He is a serial offender.

You mean he broke a rule and then asked others to cover for? For shame Bruce Pearl... I bet you have never ever asked anyone to cover for you before, huh?

No, I haven't. That would be not only illegal, but stupid and disloyal for trying to someone else to cover for me and be an accomplice.
