It just takes the wind out of the game experience to see a strong drive and lead followed by a sucky finish. Take the win and whoop on Chattanooga.

I agree 100%. But the end of this game makes me concerned for the rest of the season. I think Murry's actually done a really nice job this year. We have some big wins on the road we don't typically win, versus Morehead & Winthrop, we change defenses a lot during the game, and the team is so much more mentally tough & mentally intense than they have been in a very long time. But not using the timeouts at the end wasn't the smartest move in the world. I like this team and think they can win a whole lot more games - let's just put teams away.

All that being said, nice win over a good Mercer team. Chattanooga rolls in on Saturday. Looking at their schedule & stats, I don't think they're quite as good, but they have size in Tuoyo on the inside (6-10) and we have to keep Casey Jones from drivin' that train high on cocaine..... It's very do-able. Play a strong 40 mins and we're 5-1 to start the league season. I'll take that.

I think we are all totally elated to win the game but are disappointed on the way it was won. With luck. Sooner or later those teams are going to start hitting those wide open shots to win the game. We cannot keep giving away leads like that.

I think the criticim is warranted.

Moving forward, the Bucs continue to rebound well (+6 tonight) and take care of the ball (9 TO's). Doing these things consistently will put us in contention for a SOCON championship. I think playing with a sense of urgency will push us over the top. This is my only point.

As an aside, Ike Nwamu looked like he could play fullback for the Georgia Bulldogs. That kid was stacked!

I think a lot us feel that instead of "we won the game" that it is more like "we didn't lose the game". That might sound like the same thing but the way you feel afterwards and looking back at the game (at least in my case) there is a difference.

Totally agree. Low numbers of turnovers make up for the rebounding, although I think tonight we were ok. This team is mentally tough. They don't panic. That's much different than in past years.

I am getting over it now and starting to get warmed up for the Chatt game Saturday. Have to leave this game behind now. The take away is for us to NOT try to slow it down at the end of games. That will serve us well if we can do that.

Don't slow it down! That alley oop to bring Mercer within 1 was a kick in the nads for being so complacent. We relinquished control of the game willingly. No timeout was Bartow's choke of the game brought to you by East Coast Wings. Let's use the hot sauce for Chattanooga's thugs.

Check out Bartow's comments, for fun. The man is willfully in denial. Mercer is an ok team in rebuilding mode. The difference is they have a GOOD coach that's proven it on the national stage. Anyone with half a brain knows last night's near upset was all due to bad and better coaching.

But the real question is what is the Vegas over and under on at what time in the game Hoffman will get his first T? Secondary odds are on how many Ts he will get in a game and wagering is suspended on how many he will get during the season.

Sorry, but I'm not a big Bob fan 07-coffee3

Bucs win despite the woeful decisions by mubar.

After 12 seasons, his teams still cannot run an out-of-bounds play, doesn't run screen plays for shooters ( Rembert doesn't get but two shots in second half ) has no offensive playbook, can't run man-to-man defense and use of bench if terrible ( team was worn out last five minutes ).

He's doing the same thing with Riley as he did with Tim Smith. Hold the ball, drive with eight seconds on shot clock, hope shot goes or gets fouled.

mubar is pathetic when the chips are down.

RE: Official Game Thread: Mercer (W 71-70)
I pretty much completely disagree with what you just stated.

This team is running much better out of bounds plays, they run screens for shooters constantly (how about the pass to Banks shovel to Riley play - it's essentially a screen play, but that's just one of many examples), they play man-to-man relatively well, and we're playing more than 7 players. We change defenses throughout the game, we're shooting & hitting 3s, and we defense the 3s reasonably well. We shut down one of the top 20 scorers in the nation in QJ Peterson from VMI and shut down Mercer's top scorer in Ike Nwamu on Thursday night. I'm not saying I love everything he's doing, but we're winning, and we're winning games we didn't typically win in the past.

Although I was vehemently pissed off about the lack of timeouts in the last minute by Murry in the previous game, he's doing a good job with this team. I'll get flamed for stating such ridiculousness, or they'll just ignore me, but he's doing a pretty damn good job this year. It's tough to make the case the opposite way.

I just waiting for Murry to return to form with exclusive zone defense, terrible game management.....but if he keeps on like he is....this will be by far best at ETSU. He's always recruited decently. I wonder about the Freedom Hall effect on recruiting. I'd say it's a miracle that he's changed. This will be the first season I want to keep him around. I'm starting to like the guy.

I agree with this sentiment and analysis. I've been disgruntled with Bartow over the years (and believe he almost lost the game against Mercer) but I have to give credit where credit is due: We're playing a deeper rotation, rebounding better, giving guys more freedom to shoot (maybe too much, but do you remember when guys were terrified to shoot?), and we have two legitimate "5's" coming in next season. Admittedly, I think the assistants, especially Coach Bolen on offense, deserve much of this credit, but Bartow deserves credit for hiring great assistants (even he doesn't get credit for anything else).

Let's whip some Moc ass!!

The above DOES perfectly describe the last 6-7 minutes of the game when Bartow slowed the game down. We did struggle several times to get the ball in. We didn't run any plays we just gave the ball to Riley (ala Tim Smith) and let him try and create something with shot clock running down (He didn't most of the time). He didn't use the bench until the very end and the players did get tired. Our Defense was terrible, see the last play, nobody had a clue where 22 was until they saw him taking that last shot. So yeah the "old" Bartow is still there and still shows up at the worst times.

Bartow is doing much better this year but old habits die slow. Contract year is great motivation. The next two years after, we will have more legitimate shot at finally winning a NCAA tourney game, I hope. It would be dependent on Jurkin, most of all, I'd argue, the missing puzzle piece for years. That win would be a great way for Bartow to solidify the new game plan and redeem so many frustrating lapses.

I am worried about scoring next year, we are losing Rembert and Riley, Wilson is a good spot up shooter but he doesn't have the ability to drive and handle the ball and take over a game if needed. We are getting an inside game (maybe) yet to be seen, but losing a lot on the outside.
