ESPN to be offered a la carte on Dish/Sling
http://www.ubbullrun.com/2015/1/6/750429...re-maction

Dish Network's Sling TV announced today that ESPN will be available via a streaming subscription, no cable contract required.

For $20 a month, Dish will offer ESPN, ESPN2, CNN, TNT, Food Network, HGTV and the Cartoon Network to consumers to stream on their laptops and mobile devices.

In addition, DISH, ESPN and ESPN Deportes customers will have access to the live and video-on-demand channel ESPN3 which of course includes the MAC network.

Some cable networks like HBO and Showtime offer some form of streaming. But ESPN has been on the sidelines and as one of the most viewed networks on television their entry into the streaming market may break open the flood gates.

I wish I could get dish. That would be a better deal than what I have now.

All you need is net access to order it.

Probably be better off with ATT U-Verse unless these channels are primarily what you watch.

Yes, its well focused on those who do much of their viewing on internet streaming (like myself), but who would be willing to pay a premium price relative to most streaming subscriptions for ESPN access on the internet (like myself if I am in Beijing in FB season).

We cut every cord a couple years ago now; I built an HTPC and we stream/download everything.

Tempting for ESPN, though one benefit of the MAC is that 90% of the things I want to stream are via ESPN3 - which is included with our Uverse internet (ESPN/ESPN2 are not, though).

Still... I'd consider it come championship time since those games are usually on the main networks - especially since it's supposed to be non-contract / month-to-month.

Yes, if I was not a regular subscriber, I'd definitely subscribe during December and January and March for the bowl games and a big chunk of March Madness.
