I think they beat our asses a couple of times during the Skippy years because I remember being surprised when we beat them in the C-USA title game.

What position are you thinking for these playmakers?

Derell Scott
James sommers
Vt rb transfer?

That is a lot of talent but how do we get them the ball?

I'd be shocked if ECU wasn't at least 8-4 next season even without Carden and Hardy

Scott has to sit out a year, Summers will be a WR and likely try to take Worthy's place, Mangus (VT transfer) will rotate from RB and slot receiver for speed and likely return kicks

To be honest as well, UCF replaces too much on defense to be a factor if we don't find our footing on offense.

We lose Terrance Plummer (MLB), Troy Gray (OLB), Clayton Geathers, Jordan Ozerites, Brandon Alexander (All DB's), and a scattering of DLinemen.

I think the east runs through Cincinnati first, and Temple second if they retain as many people as I think they do.

We need to post the predicted lineup for each team in this thread. That seems like a good idea or maybe one thread called AAC 2015

There's a lot of Offseason to be had. Let's do it by position, starting with both lines, ending in QB's. We can even have a poll at the end of the week to see who we think has the best combination of players at that position group.

I think that's a great idea. Good way to get to know other AAC teams other than reading some magazine that is probably going to get a lot wrong anyway.

Is Derrell Scott definitely coming to ECU? Heard he visited but nothing more than that. If he comes on...damn to many good running backs!

RE: ECU football 2015
Tulsa has the history, and just made a hire, to be one of the better teams in this conference. I'm not sure they will have that good of a one year turnaround, or that ECU will fall as much as some expect. I also didn't exactly expect Memphis to win the conference this year, so I won't rule it out. Guaranteeing ECU won't beat Tulsa next year is a bit much IMO, but that's what the off season is for I suppose.

I can see anywhere from 6-6 to 9-3, really depends on the QB position IMO

RE: ECU football 2015
Some things to consider for next year:

Oline will return four Sr. starters and primary backup at several positions is a SR in Tre Robertson. Tre could easily start at any AAC program. He very well may start for us ousting Livingston at Rt. Two starting JUCO's will have a full year in camp Conners which they need and will benefit. Also hearing good things on Christian Matua who's 6'4" 315 LBS that his knee is healthy. He may be in the mix at center. This group will be our strength which I love cause we all know it starts with the big fella's. They will be nasty and PHYSICAL.

Running game will emerge big with the oline mentioned before, Benkert at QB, and a stable of RB's. Benkert is bigger and faster than Carden. He also possess a stronger arm. Benkert will also have other QB's in camp giving him plenty of competition. TE talent will be a year stronger with B.Williams, S. Baggett, and D. Dowdell.

Receivers are plentiful in the program that will be led by Brown, Jones, Grayson, B Williams, J Williams. that's a lot of catches mentioned in those five names. Then you have emerging talent in Johnson, Burston and Green to name a few.

Defense against the run will be stout as evidenced in our game with Florida.

DL of Big Fred, Hooker, and J White would start for many AAC programs and will for us. Back ups of Stanley, McGill have plenty of snaps. We have numerous guys coming up in Anderson, Bailey, Myers with good talent. We're good.

Inside backer took a major hit with Brandon Williams leaving. Great player. Devaris Brunson has big shoe's to fill, but he is a better athlete than Williams. Bigger's leadership is huge and he's a good one to bring Brunson to speed. Carter, Tillman and Frailey will backup.

OLB question mark at the will. We're fine versus the run. May go JUCO for pass rusher which we're after. Jeton Beavers has the size and ability you look for so maybe the light will come on. At the Sam we probably have the best talent in the conference. Led by Sr. Overton (4.37 forty, 6'4" 225Lbs.), backed by Pratt, Green, and Bowden.

Safeties glad to see the growth of Richardson at SS over the last few games. He's very physical and legacy kid son of Darren Hart who was the best SS I ever saw play the game for the Pirates. He'll have to fight off a lot of emerging talent of Bobby Fulp and others I could list. Travon Simmons is emerging backbone or QB of the backfield. He has that feel or thing for the game you can't teach. He should start in front of Lennon next yr. who started 12 games for us at FS.

Corners are the question mark, but we have talent and we're bringing in a lot of talent. Rick Smith won't rest until corner is fixed. Benton should start at the boundry probably backed by Scarffone. Incumbent at the field is Allen backed by Amos, Scarfone, and Phillips. We already have two corners coming in for spring ball along with the possibity of a JUCO as well.

Ruffin has the program pretty well stocked that we don't run the risk of major dropoff anymore from year to year. Eight wins very realistic all the way to 10. We're at the level where we just need the ball to bounce right to win ten games which was very possible last year. One thing I do know for sure is we can compete with and defeat anyone on our schedule. If you don't agree then your kidding yourself because the shelves are stocked in Greenville.

Pretty much spot on assessment of ECU Football. Shane and Justin were the face of ECU for most outsiders but other than losing them ECU has far more returning talent in 2015 then we did going into the 2014 season. It has been argued on this board that Shane is a system QB and that is half right in that a QB in Lincoln Riley's offense job is to distribute the ball to the playmakers and not make mistakes that will lose a game for us. Shane evolved into a great leader but nobody will argue he has a great arm, speed etc.. He was a last minute recruit that had no other offers and expected to be a back up to Rio Johnson but things worked out great for him and the ECU offense. Kurt Benkert and a couple other QB's currently at ECU came in with far greater expectations of them than Shane did so while there will always be a learning curve for a new QB, I think we will be fine. The type Offense we run will always attract QB's and WR's so if we have to go the JUCO route we have seen how quickly a Dominique Davis can come in and run the offense and there is absolutely no problem attracting JUCO WR's that want to come in and catch a lot of balls.

The OL and DL next year are set up better than they have been in years. If Rick Smith could fix the secondary then I would feel really good about the season but until he does that we will continue to be vulnerable to big plays and any decent QB on our schedule. The new QB will have huge shoes to fill but if they do a decent job then winning 8 games is certainly achievable even with a tough schedule. During the Logan years we would see 4-5 win seasons while he was grooming a new QB but I don't think we will see that under Ruff

RE: ECU football 2015
I'm extremely optimistic about the 2015 Pirates. I don't expect (and quite frankly, we don't NEED) Benkert to step in and be Shane Carden from day 1. We will finally have a running game to rely on behind a stout, veteran OL. We're going to have a stable of very good RB's. Grayson, Hairston, Scott, Mangus, etc. We might be able to run to set up the pass! And from multiple reports, Benkert is more talented than Shane anyway. Not saying that it will translate to the field on Saturdays, but the reports thus far have been very encouraging.

Charlie Brown is getting ready to kick that dang footballl again.

No offense meant, but your team had real talent again this year. From an outsider's perspective, it was the guys in golf shirts that held that team back, not the guys in pads.

Eh, there were definitely some poor coaching decisions this year, notably the disaster of the UCF game but we did have talent issues. Notably our defensive secondary and our pass rush. Those, in my opinion, played a bigger role in our losses then coaching sans the UCF game.

In this day and age with teams passing as much as they do, we have to get better on the back end if we want to win championships.

Our Achilles heel - red zone run game. If we had one, we run out the clock on UCF, long drive on Cinci for W, and we don't fumble on the 1 or botch two 4th down conversions against UF. Riley is still learning, margin of loses getting closer (no pastings by a Navy or even a UNC). Once the team hits equilibrium, ECU will be very dangerous.
