Cable or U-verse...need advice for ditching landline and going Internet/Netflix only.
Hey folks!

Because the missus and me don't have much time for TV anymore and want to cut costs, we're looking at cutting our landline and our U-verse combo package and going with high-speed only Internet with perhaps a Netflix subscription...any suggestions would be appreciated in regards to the best Internet connection speeds. Thanks, Jim

Dishnetwork has a $20 online option coming out in the next few weeks. I'm considering it.

I have Comcast Internet + which includes about 10 channels AND HBO. I also have a Hulu and Netflix subscription. I like it.

I had DirecTV and cut the cable last year. It was fine for me except for the sports. If you aren't a huge sports fan it's easy to cut the cable and watch Netflix and Amazon Instant and we had Hulu Plus as well.

You'll have to up your Internet plan from Comcast. If you go over a certain data limit they will charge you more. We went with the Internet with Blast and have had no reliability issues.

I had a Roku box for my streaming device. It works pretty good. The Roku 2 needs to be reset every week or so but it's not a big deal.

We went back to DirecTV for sports and my wife loves HGTV.

My kids didn't care at all they don't even watch DirecTV they prefer Netflix since there are no commercials.

We did that for a year. We picked up about 40 HD channels over the air in DFW. Turned out we missed the cable news live. Got tired of watching sports on computer. Even though I found an inexpensive laptop with a HDMI connector that I could hook up to any of my TVs including my projector in the media room it wasn't like just turning on the TV and watching.

I am ready to cut the land line but my alarm company has yet to convert to the cellular technology. AT&T is really ripping us off on something we never use.

What's that run? Comcast is very shady about not putting the regular price in the fine print on the web.

I think I could go back to it but we have another year or so with DirecTV on our contract. Some channels are starting to offer streaming like NBA League Pass and NHL but ESPN isn't on board yet. Hopefully NFL Sunday Ticket will offer it.

Over the Air HD Annenna is amazing. The picture quality is much better than cable or satellite.

I saw someone post about this yesterday....if it offers ESPN, I'd do that in a heartbeat.

However, my Mom has Dish & continually has issues, so I would be slightly concerned about the level of service from them.

I pay $39.99, but it's $59.99/normally, I believe

My daughter dropped her Comcast cable in a cost-cutting measure, and got Netflix, Roku and all that streaming stuff I don't understand.

I don't even own a tv, but I can't tell you how much I miss the live news, weather, and sports on regular cable. I never thought I would say that because I really hate most of the garbage on tv. But it seems to me like the life has gone out of her tv. But then, I don't watch old movies.

Just use your Mom's dish login on the Watch ESPN app.
