Congrats on the win! You guys played a heck of a game.

I'm curious what you guys thought of Mobile and the whole bowl experience. Thanks for any and all trip reports and safe travels back to Ohio.

How was Mobile?
Had a great time. Had dinner at the bull on Saturday night before the parade. Parade was fantastic. Glad the rain held off til after. Once it started, man, it rained.

Spent yesterday in gulf shores/orange beach.

Enjoyed mobile. People were very friendly except for the bum that told me to go **** myself when I wouldn't give him any money.

RE: How was Mobile?
We had a great time. We stayed in Fairhope at the Marriott. The weather was better than expected. We were able to take in some great seafood at Wintzells in Mobile and had lunch at Panini Pete's in Fairhope. I fished twice, but caught nothing still enjoyed the experience. We excersized several mornings and had a great time in the hot tub a couple evenings. Of course the Rocket game was the icing on the cake. It was nice to talk with NewMex Rocket prior to the game as well. This was the first time for us in the Mobile Bay Area. It was enjoyable. Thanks for the tips MobileBama. It was very helpful.

Sharing New Years Eve with the people of Mobile was fun.

Now it's back to subzero temps and 10 inches of snow. 03-weeping

RE: How was Mobile?
The people there were so friendly. A lot of them came up to us and said they're glad we're here and hope we're enjoying our time here. I thought the battleship tour was awesome simply for the fact that I got to go in there. Like, how did they even build something like that. Parade was a lot of fun; people were telling me not to miss it and I'm glad I didn't. I thought downtown had a lot of interesting and attractive looking architecture.

So Ladd-Peebles may be an older stadium in the neighborhood but it was a good place to watch a game and I didn't have to go to the mens' room in a catch-all trough, so that turned out better than I'd been led to believe. Could have used more porta-potties in the parking lot but at least I got some exercise walking to it. Also, I thought the PA guy was a riot, and I loved it. I'd say the amount of times he spoke without getting a name, number, or yardage wrong was less than 20%, but he put his heart into it and sounded genuinely excited. I'd prefer that over our guy who's a professionally trained vocalist but says the losing team's score first half the time. Although over a full season, I'd expect names to be remembered sooner or later.

So yeah, I'd be happy to play in this bowl again anytime!

I had a great time. Parade was a blast. Pep really was fun. But did I miss it, our was there no street party? After the fireworks, everyone started leaving and walking towards the hotels and I didn't see any signs of a street party.

Went to the USS Alabama Sunday morning and spent 3 hours there. GREAT experience and well worth it.

I didn't wait to find out if there was because of the storm rolling in.

My guess is that it was cancelled. Or the folks that stayed out for it were driven into the river by the wind.

How long are you in gulf shores for?

Let me know if you need restaurant recommendations.

Had a great time in Mobile, people were very friendly, love the city, the parade was great, the bad part was that we were surrounded by ASU fans. Great to go and see the USS Alabama. Had a great time.

We had a super time in Mobile. Don't know how it could be better; great city, friendly people, awesome parade and pep rally,
great alumni tailgate, and a fun football game. This is a first class bowl. The only way it could have been better is if more Rocket fans had made the trip. You just don't know what you are missing.

RE: How was Mobile?
Sounds like the MAC negotiated the wrong bowl for it's champion? Though I imagine it's about pay-out.

Anyone know the payouts for the games the MAC was in?

H20ville Rocket was probably just grumpy because he hadn't had his coffee yet. 05-stirthepot

This is a partial list with per school payout. Unfortunately, some MAC teams are TBA.

I think the MAC is on a couple of those TBAs. Could be not good? And who could afford that Hawaii Bowl, other than Hawaii?

Earlier in the pm the charter group was informed that the parade was still on, but might "look different" if it got rainy-- i.e., the open vehicles might not participate. Also, with rain expected after the parade, the band would be moved inside the convention center. Walked up into the conv ctr after the pep rally looking for the party. Found the band playing to about four Rocket fans, two ASU fans, and several others. Did not stay long. Don't know where the party went, but it definitely was not there. Felt bad for the band as they were not bad.

Had a couple meals at the Marriott. Food was good and reasonably priced. Was not able to get to any of the suggested establishments before the parade, but grabbed some beers and appetizers at Crockmeirs and just walked until the parade started. Had no problems at all. Anyone we spoke with was helpful and friendly

RE: How was Mobile?
Toledo fans who went to the GMAC Bowl back in 2005 kept saying what a great experience that was, since we were unable to make that trip, we have been waiting for an opportunity to get to Mobile ever since. I must say, Mobile did not disappoint. I can see why stAte has come here 4 years in a row. Everyone in Mobile was great, even the stAte fans, special kudos to the local bartenders, who we built a great rapport with over a number of days.

The Best:
USS Alabama
Belingrath Gardens Holiday Light Display
Wintzell's - The food was great and Becca was awesome.
Beignets at Panini Pete's
Courtyard @ Marriott in Spanish Fork letting up check in at 6am.

Pretty Darn Good:
Loda BierGarten - Great Pretzels - Hillary & Becca were great
Fairhope Brewing - Bartender/Owner, was very cool, knowledgable and personable
Mardi Gras Parade
Buck's Pizza
Moe's BBQ
Pat's - a bit of a dive bar on Dauphin, but Mike, owner/bartender was great.
Callaghan's - Great Burger
Baumhower's - Great Wings
Salvation Army Holiday Light Show @ Hank Aaron Stadium

The Only Less than desirable experience:
The OK Bicycle Shop - A very socially awkward bartender, food was so-so at best.

Should the Rockets get the invite, I would be ready to go back to Mobile again next year!!! Thanks Mobile for a great BOWL EXPERIENCE!!!

RE: How was Mobile?
We came to the game after a prescheduled trip to Destin Florida and I think Mobile did a great job. Loved the parade, had some good discussions with some stAte fans. Props to the university for bussing so many students down. Really made the pregame tailgate fun. I was amazed at how fast the Mobile staff cleaned up that parade. Loved the USS Alabama tour.

Props to Mobile. I have some beads hanging from my office door at work

RE: How was Mobile?
Just rolled back in from our trip. Thank you to Mobile and GoDaddy for sponsoring this game. It was truly an awesome experience. Atmosphere, parade and the game combined with the location made this something I'd take my family to again if we went back next year. I was really impressed with how much the people in Mobile and the coast (we stayed on Dauphin Island) appreciated the fans coming down. Must have had 40 random people say "welcome to Mobile" or ask about the game. Great time. Anyone who has not had the opportunity to do this should make the trip!

Glad you Rockets had a good experience... And the win. NIU fans had a great time a few years ago. It may not be glam, but it is a good bowl tie in for us.
