i wasnt able to attend the game last night. i only heard the last 3 min of regulation and overtime. what was the problem? Chad Bush kept mentioning free throws, but it had to be more than that. and why was Alvano in instead of Talley to start overtime? that doesnt make sense to me.

It was another head-scratcher game from Murphy in regards to the lineups. I have no idea why Talley and Price barely played in the OT, especially Price. He was having a much better game than Okoloji.

Our biggest issues were indeed the FT shooting and rebounding. I don't know how many second chance points BSU had, but it felt like tons. We also shot 29% from the field...that isn't gonna cut it against anyone. It's easy to blame Murphy's offense, but we missed A LOT of wide open threes. I'm to the point where I cringe every time Talley takes a 3. He just isn't a good shooter, and it's a waste of his biggest weapon; his speed. Lee and Price are the only two shooters I trust on this team. Ward has been too streaky.

It was just a bad overall game. Easily our worst of the year. I'm not freaking out, especially if we right the ship on Saturday. But if we start the season 0-2 against the two worst teams in the conference, then we are probably screwed.

thanks Sam! good recap. maybe we can convince the Eagle Totem fellas to ask Murphy about playing Alvano over Talley in OT.

One scary thing about our defense: In overtime, before Ball State came out of their huddle after a timeout, I told my son that BSU #34 is going to get a wide open look from the corner. He did and hit it to win the game. I am not prophetic by any stretch, just saying how we could leave a shooter wide open makes me scratch my head.....

Here is a point to be taken on. How can we get 4 fouls on their best player 10 minutes into the game and not get him fouled out? How come we didn't attack this weak point? How can he be allowed to play 3/4 of the game with 4 fouls plus over time!

Super great point. A strategic coach would have gone at him for the 5th foul. I am very concerned about the lack of adjustments during the game.....just saying. Again, we will win 20games this year which is a credit to Murphy.

Hopefully we get this much activity after our next win. I remember how dead this board was after we won at Missouri State. It's a shame that all the discussion is saved for losses.

I can hear Mitt (Romney): "Want to bet $10,000?" (I still like that 2012 primary debate line from Mitt [to Rick Perry] who [Mitt] is so straight laced that you probably couldn't pay him to set foot in a casino).

NO ONE believes this is a sub-.500 team.

Folks need to realize that a team isn't as good as its best win or as bad as its worst loss.

I watched I think MSU go 8 - 8 from behind the arc during a stretch in the 2nd half vs. Iowa, wiping out a big deficit and yielding a big win last night. [Ended up 12-17 behind the arc]. MSU will not do that again this season.

Miggy will go 3 for 4 one game and 0 for 4 the next. Miggy is neither a .750 or .000 hitter. He is the average of his performance over 162 games.

One comment I think Samuels has really been a pleasant surprise in terms of defense and rebounding.

Agree. I like Samuels. He is rounding into shape and has another year of eligibility left. Samuels knows how to occupy space in the lane.

I like how excited Chad Bush gets calling him during a play "Big Mike!"

Indeed it was. A lot of energy in the building. I was sort of worried walking out that we might not get a crowd like that again, but I'm not sure. Everyone sitting around me seemed to have an excellent time. Lots of, what I'd call, casual fans making noise and focused in on the game. I'm sure the average fan had no idea what kind of non-conference record Ball State had. It was an entertaining OT game for those of us who weren't pulling their hair out. Hopefully these folks will return.

Frank, I agree with your post.

Sports are adrenalin highs (e.g., think of the Lions/Cowboy game) and even though the result was a big downer, the game was full of suspense.

We, here, would have preferred a Coppin State game, but it was very good entertainment (Coppin wasn't).

Played point. Looked a bit tentative offensively and had his one shot rim out. You could tell it was his first career game, and everyone else was in midseason form.

He looked good at the top of the zone though. Knew what he was doing. Those arms go on for days too. He'll give teams fits on that end whenever he's in the game.

Agree. It will take time for him to integrate into the offense but on defense this guy is all arms.

He would make a very good close out defender from the SF spot with those long arms.

There is a paragraph on Timmy Bond from one of those showcase events last year. The write-up seems like what we expect and a glimpse we saw Wednesday (he is quick defensively and all arms - he got wingspan).
