I think college football in general has shifted from valuing great defense to valuing a great offense. Tempo has picked up too I believe, causing higher scoring games and more tired defenses.

I do think that offenses has got better overall , it's hard to stop a great offensive team But a decent defense is needed to go with it in case things don't click some games like our game against La Tech

It had been the primer game before the championship game over the years. Now there is a week break which puts this game in a weird time

Defenses are also at a disadvantage when it comes to first downs in CFB. If it is even close, the official spots the ball and waves the first down crew up. They rarely measure probably in an effort to red the game up. It sets up for high scores as even evidence in the Iron bowl.

Even more embarrassing than the score is the fact that an Arkansas State player was ejected for threatening an official.....sad.

That was just because it was WKU, and you will always have a special place in my heart. I already knew our defense sucked. Toledo didnt need to prove it. Thank god we had an incredible offense, or we finish something like 3-8 instead of 7-5.

Never seen it or heard of it before. I'd love to know what he said. He'll learn...learn the hard way, but he'll learn.

I know that the player who threatened the official is not a good representative of Ark State. We all have them.

I wanted you guys to pull it out for sure. Been lots of points given up this bowl season against good defenses

I think the way the game is trending from an officiating standpoint makes it hard for defenses. You can't breathe on a WR or it is pass interference. You can't touch a QB or it is a personal foul. Combine that with up tempo, high powered offenses (compared to the trench warfare of the past) and you see teams putting up tons of points.

Here's the deal on Arky State.

The last time we played them at home in 2013 I had to miss because of work. I'm keeping up with the game via phone. I had 2 different guys call me livid over how 'thug' the asu sideline was. One of our guys got tackled out of bounds on the sideline and the asu players acted like they were jumping him into a gang. It ended up stopping the game for awhile.

And I'm not one of those guys that thinks all of our players are fine young Christian fellows. We had a load of Willie Taggarts Flarda boys on this squad. Not Angels. But 2 different friends called me separately saying State was the thuggest team they'd seen visit.

This year against the Cajuns thuggery went on. State tried to spin it like any fan base does. But ask the Cajuns and you'll get an earful.

Now in a bowl game more thuggery comes up.

Happens once you can say Western is crying. Happens twice you can maybe say Western AND the Cajuns are crying. Three times......if you can spin this one you'd make Tariq Aziz and Baghdad Bob blush.

Seems to follow the Red Woofs.

But you have to understand ASU is different from all the rest of us....

they do things the "ASU WAY" plus they have a team full of XMEN
