Do you know anything about any of these fine coaches? Do they fit the Liberty mold? And by mold I mean the shape of Liberty's mission..... not the current state of what grows on the basketball program.

The new coach must be one who is fits the Liberty brand, and equally as important if not more important, must be a capable and proven winner who can produce wins on the court. Without a high importance on the desire to win may place us in the same situation as we are now with Layer. Do I think it is possible? Does it make a little harder for LU? Yes again.

In Chris Lang's post game comments, he did finally allude to the grumblings about Layer and how attendance is at an all time low and apathy at an all time high.

I know very little about the personal lives of any of the top 10 assistants named. I trust the new coach would be a good fit for our mission, which is way more important than basketball.

Isn't is possible to have both rather than to place emphasis on one over the other (mission vs. basketball). Isn't it a given that a LU coach has got to fit the LU mold. To say one must fit the mold first without equal emphasis is a potential recipe for another failure.

No doubt. It does make the pool of candidates smaller.

That means LU has to work harder, act wiser in it's hiring, think outside the box, and be not afraid to take chances. Those actions will reap some rewards and some mistakes. I'll take the occasional mistake along with the more than occasional success.

We still have a coach and half a season. I always say be careful what you ask for. There is a lot of pie in the sky in this thread. The only way Dale should be let go is if we are sure we can do better. I'm disappointed as well, but the list of Candidates who are Bette r and will come is very short IMHO.

Tough decisions require strength and conviction. The choice is will be better to keep Layer and limp through the season for all the reasons previously stated, or, make a the change now. If one does not support making a change now, how much worse, down trodden or bad would things have to get to justify the action? What else would have to happen to make the change, or is there no justification (minus moral values) to remove a coach mid season?

RE: New Liberty MBB coach. Who's your choice?
I don't think there is no on the court performance that will remove Layer mid-season. I don't think I'd want to do that anyway. It could really affect the perception of the school as a cold, heartless place to work and shun prospective coaches. Especially if they see that Layer didn't do anything wrong except lose a bunch. Would they get fired by a trigger happy AD?

I think it is safe to assume Liberty wouldn't hire a coach that wouldn't fit with their moral and ethics (as far as they knew). Nor would many coaches come to LU if they didn't agree with Liberty's mission.

I don't think the program (barring a scandal) can get much lower. We are rock bottom. There are only 15 or so games left so just ride it out, smile at the cameras, and then run a report in the news that says Liberty and Layer have mutually decided to part ways and Liberty wishes Layer well in his future endeavors and thanks him for his service and commitment.

Can it get worse than being dead last in the country? How many schools, 353? and were last.
