Sorry to hear this. I had my own battle with cancer a little over a decade ago.

Scott, to me, represents the change in ESPN that valued shtick over substance. Obviously, I'm sad for his family, friends and colleagues but was never a big fan of his work.

I thought when they gave him the award at the ESPYs last year, it had meant he'd beaten the cancer he had. Either he'd beaten it and it came back to claim his life, or he still had it and it claimed his life. Whatever the circumstances were.......R.I.P. Mr. Scott!

He actually beat it twice. But it came back twice as well.

Story that went out was that he spent a week in the hospital before he gave that speech, and many thought he'd never be able to make it to the ESPY's.

I remember watching that speech and seeing for the first time how much cancer had taken a toll on him. Without admitting it, I was pretty confident that many around ESPN already knew he was in his final months, and gave him the award at that time for that reason.

I agree. They aired the tributes to Scott immediately after he passed away. To me, that says those tributes were prepaired before he passed so they knew the time was near. May he rest in peace.

RE: OT: ESPN Stuart Scott passes away
looking back at it- the final MNF game of the year, all the MNF countdown folks at the stadium raised their hands in support of him- so I think they knew then that the end was really near...

Absolutely loved the tributes of him yesterday. And really looking forward to tonight when Olberman I'm sure will have a great tribute for him. Liked how even folks like Dan Patrick were on the tribute piece even though they had problems with ESPN. One of my favorite ones was when on the NFL network- Rich Eisen did the highlights of the Bengals/Colts game just like Scott would do.
