Bruce!
So did anyone else watch Bruce almost save the Steelers' season until the coaches made a bone-headed substitution?

Yes, more? Read the game story and Bruce's name wasn't mentioned.

He completed 2-3 for 22 yards, hardly season saving stats on the face of it.

RE: Bruce!
Came in on 3rd and extra long and completed two passes to get the first down. Then threw into the endzone where a receiver dropped a touchdown pass (although he was hit hard). Ben came in on the next play and threw a pick.

This here is exactly what happened. Even more specifically, Big Ben had got his bell rung getting slammed on the turf, which is why they put Bruce in. Despite the fact Bruce was throwing it well and Ben was likely still a little woozy, they decided to put him back in...and it was a really horrible pick that he threw. Clearly if they had stuck with Bruce, they would have got the touchdown.

Bruce looked good and all of his throws were on the mark. Pretty tough situation to go into and I also think if he had stayed in, they would have got the TD to put them within 5 with a lot of time left. The pick Ben threw was to a receiver with 2 defenders on top of him and a third that was underneath. That was the last time we had a championship - when we had a top level MAC QB.

RE: Bruce!
That pass into the end-zone was PRETTY! Right between the WRs hands. The defender made a good decision going after the receiver instead of the ball because there was no way he was going to get it.

He gets only a couple plays all season and the fans still yell "Bruuuuuce" loud enough to hear it on the tv. He must be real popular in Pittsburgh. Even his brother standing on the Baldermer sideline was looking proud there.

Had one in 2005 and didn't win the MAC. The ability to control the game by
pounding the FB was the difference in 2004.

It may have been the difference in 2004 vs.2005 - among other things. I never said it was the only reason. Without a top level QB in the MAC, it is very rare to win the championship. NIU did it this year with a good QB, but he also could run effectively and throw effectively - and they did not turn the ball over.
