OT - City of Oregon, Ohio to change it's name
For 1 day, Oregon, Ohio will be known as Buckeye Town, Ohio. Oregon wants to show it's support for Ohio and the Ohio State Buckeyes - so it will change it's name for 1 day - on the National Championship game day to Buckeye Town. Oregon Clay HS which has the same school colors as the Oregon Ducks of Green and Gold will also be changed for that day (although I think it will be done in fun only).

A lot of people may not like this being OSU haters and all - but having grown up in Oregon, Ohio from 6th grade on, I think it is a neat thing to do. Getting some national recognition on the story - and it may result in Phil Knight sending a bunch of Green and Gold equipment to get them to change it back.

I don't care how everyone else views it - but I am pulling hard for an OSU win. I was a Buckeye fan before Toledo, but I guess I was a fan of both as a kid.

Hate on it if you want, but it is a fun one day thing that not all Oregon residents are on board with. It will get more attention than anything and there will be no cost to the taxpayers for this bit of fun.

Couple other Clay High grads here - what do you think about it? I'm sure if Toledo was playing the Oregon Ducks for the national championship, they would have changed the name to Rocket City - or maybe still to Buckeye Town... LOL.

As a matter of state pride I don't mind the gesture. I think they should switch to OHregon instead.

That's clever. I like that way more than Buckeye Town. Already mentioned, East East Toledo. I imagine they'll for with scarlet and grey colors.

Gotcha football on the brain. Wasn't making the connection to bball. I guess I don't mind this gesture given the national stage. Not that the bball contest wasn't significant, but it didn't have the pulse of the nation hanging in the balance like the natl. champ game.

It should have considering Toledo was involved.

Also, I like the gesture too and know that others hate it here too but am hoping Ohio State wins. If nothing else, it will really piss my Michigan fan brother-in-law off.

Since we're on this topic, did anyone see Cardale Jones in that game? Third string QB (sorta almost Rocket) playing against Alabama in a playoff game and he looked like a beast. I didn't watch any of the other Ohio State games this year but I can't imagine what their second string QB looks like if their third string is that good. He's a straight up mule.

Not sure what this means. They are just going to have their state rep make a one day proclamation for the name change. The guy also did something similar after Richie Screptock won Clay's first state championship in wrestling last year. The guys that are pushing for this admitted that they are not Ohio State fans but thought it was a good idea for state pride. It's about time we have some people that are looking for state and local pride - even if it is coming from little Oregon, Ohio. I like the enthusiasm of having some fun and bringing attention to the game. It may even end up on the national championship pregame show - or at least on ESPN.

We could put the Rocket inside a circle on top the state of Michigan as in, "We're not Michigan!" 05-stirthepot

No?

Fine!

Says now the Mayor of Oregon is not on board with changing the name for a day. So that is over and done with. Previously it indicated he was in favor. Politicians....

Instead they are going to add a slogan for the week to show support for the Buckeyes. Not sure how that is better for those who didn't support the name change.

What! Does he have ANY idea how much heat he's going to take? This got nationwide mention of the podunkious suburb of what most outsiders would consider a podunk town, and he puts the kabosh on it?

Has to be more to the story.
