UH vs Rice in football should be returning very soon.
Coach Herman has let it be known that he wants Rice back as an annual game. Whatever petty BS (at least on UH's end) that has been preventing the Bucket from continuing should be ending. I think it's possible that the series resumes in 2015 if UH can get out of its game with Tennessee Tech, but at worst I believe the series will resume in 2016. As I'm sure you guys know, Herman and Bailiff are muy simpatico.

Excellent!
This game is a win-win for both sides. Perfect way to get fans interested, especially if both sides are improved and competitive.

What if the proposal is for UH to host at their stadium, but for Rice's "home game" to be at NRG?

Why would that be the case?
Rice-UH draws well, but not that well. HRS can easily support it.

Yes. Make it happen. It's a big rivalry and a big money-maker. Home and home is the only way to go. Is Herman pushing for it, or is it just speculation?

Best case: Home and Home.
Best alternative: 100% at NRG
other alternatives: not in the discussion.

Most of the petty BS, at least historically, has come from the Rice end. This latest round may be coming more from UH than Rice. In any event, it's good to hear any possibility that both sides are acting like grown ups.
Now that the two are not in the same conference, would be an ideal season opener.

Then offer to pay the Tennessee Tech cancellation fee in return for UH hosting the first game but including tickets in our season ticket package.
In the long run, playing at HRS in even years works out well against the OOC games already scheduled.

To be fair we had an actual home game skipped in the last NRG deal (away/NRG/away in 02-04) and if we play at UH in 15 it would be (away/NRG/NRG/away again). I thought the pettiness was over the locker room usage last year. I don't think it's unreasonable to argue that we should host the next meeting, but scheduling in a home and away pair would suffice, and it's silly not to have this game.

Then start it in 2016 at Rice. Having Bayou Bucket home games in even years does balance our out of conference schedule going forward.

I'd go to UH in 2015. The teams should be evenly matched next season.

Both teams have spent too much on either a new stadium (UH) or will spend on stadium improvements (Rice) to have the game at NRG.

Herman wants this.
Maybe he deserves the Mensa label after all.
I like the idea of including the game in both schools' season ticket packages going forward.

Outside the box:
1. @Rice
2. @UH
3. @NRG (for the money, 1 year of 3)
Repeat
(I say that as a compromise. Prefer Rice Stadium and UofH alternating.)

It's good news for both teams and it makes sense.
I think both school's have the facilities for a home and home series.
If the rivalry is successful beyond all expectations and the respective stadiums have trouble with the cowds... Only then move it to NRG. Or if both schools could make incredible sums of money by some special deal at NRG.

I, for one and actually one of many, have no intention of going to NRG stadium to see Rice play uh ever again. It was very unpopular with Rice season ticket holders to have those tickets rolled into the season package in past years and it will not be allowed again without costing our department lots of cash. Since I sat in the fancy box for the last game between Rice and uh, I feel pretty certain that the people who support this program with their wallets and mouths feel the same way. NRG is a dreadful place for a lightly attended college game and is much better suited to the pro style fans and venue it was built for.
Just a guess, but I think requiring Rice season ticket holders to buy a ticket for a game at uh would be even less popular. I for one, would rather drop my season tickets than be forced to buy that one because I am not going over there to the pretend tier one university, period.
If you want to go back to a home and home, I am fine with that, but that is the only way I have any interest playing uh again unless it is a conference game.
Sorry, but this is an attitude that Rice fans need to lose.
This is the kind of thinking that will keep us out of a P5 conference forever.

Agreed. I dislike Reliant/NRG as well but if the choice is NRG or no UH game, then we should play at NRG.
We are not in a position to make demands. Neither is UH, really, so both teams need to follow the $$$$
