Hartford Courant: "There will be another round of movement [expansion]"
"Things have been quiet on the conference realignment front, but don't expect it to stay that way. There will be another round of movement..."

Don Amore, The Hartford Courant, January 1,2015

http://www.courant.com/sports/uconn-mens...story.html

About Don Amore:
Dom Amore joined the Courant in 1988 and has been the UConn men’s basketball beat reporter since 2011, chronicling their national championship run in 2014. He also has covered the Giants, Whalers and Yankees beats during his career in Hartford. Dom has won more than two dozen state, regional and national sportswriting awards. The National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association named him Connecticut Sportswriter of the Year in 2011, 2012 and 2013. He served as vice chairman of the New York Chapter of the Baseball Writers of America in 2005-06. A lifelong resident of the New Haven area, he previously worked for the Shore Line Newspapers, the New Haven Register and the Milford Citizen.

This isn't some twitter/blog starwars character. From what I have found out, he is the guy with the deepest sources at Uconn AND Providence/AAC headquarters. This news doesn't necessarily implicate Uconn, that is Uconn is the one that may move, but Mr.Amore's credentials are unimpeachable. I wonder if word is filtering through AAC headquarters...

More "expansion is imminent" articles have come out of Hartford than anywhere else since the collapse of the Big East.

I am starting to think that the Big 12 is unstable. The Big Ten could go after Iowa State and West Virginia. The American could go after Baylor and TCU. The Big 12 then would be down to 6 teams.

OK..... Why TF would Baylor and TCU leave the Big 12 for the American? Why would the B1G go after Iowa St (they already own this mega market) and WVU (a nonexistent market)?

Well since it's a fact that the Big 12 was turned down by UConn already (I get my facts from this board), one wonders what insider information Don Amore has.

There will indeed. After all, there is a round of power conference realignment every ten to twenty years or so, so we can expect another round of movement ... in about a decade or two.

WVU own almost all the eastern seaboard market. Second to none. Plus WVU's academics are suppose to jump to somewhere in the mid fifties next year.....07-coffee3

If you would have said "Eastern Panhandle", I would have agreed with you.

"Eastern Seaboard" on the other hand......

So what you are saying is all of your fans are out of state and adding WV would in no way improve tv $. You make a good argument for the BIG to continue its march to the sea by going after UVa and UNC.

WVU is the Big East opponent I miss most. Hillbillies vs Guidos. 'Neers vs 'Nights. They'd need AAU membership before joining the Big Ten. Also, I think they'd have to prove that they can expand the BTN footprint, and I'm not sure they do. I assume their alumni are largely in places like Pittsburgh, maybe the DC area, and these are markets where BTN is already on the air.

IMO, Big 12 will add Boise State definitely. Then the last B12 team should be BYU. If BYU shall pass, it goes to Cincinnati.

UConn will join ACC when Notre Dame is ready for full ACC membership.

Big 12 isn't going west unless they can come to favorable terms with BYU. Even then, they may not since I doubt they want to stretch the conference footprint into 3 timezones at this time.
