Exclamation So, the playoff did come through!
Under the BCS we would have had 1. Alabama vs. 2. Florida State for the national championship. While both teams were deserving of making the playoff, it's nice to see two better teams play for the championship. 04-cheers

RE: So, the playoff did come through!
Absolutely they came through. I usually didn't watch much of the title game, because I felt it was decided in an often far too perception based way and didn't care all that much. This was a giant step in the right direction, and I watched much of both games while getting some work done.

It's frustrating to know that my alma mater has virtually no shot of ever playing in one, especially because I believe they are a P5 worthy school, but that's another discussion. The playoff is good for the game, that's what is important. I believe an 8 team playoff would be perfect.

The only thing that stinks is that TCU is definitely a better team than Florida State and would give the other 3 teams a good game at minimum. Not saying they deserved to get in over FSU based on resume, but I hope it does eventually go to 8.

They gave FSU #2 after the conference championships to protect them from TCU or Baylor being argued in over them.

Not to worry, that time will come soon.

Using the old BCS formula, FSU would have been #2.

Would-be BCS rankings had Alabama at number 1 and Florida State and number 2. So they would have played for the national championship.

RE: So, the playoff did come through!
I think that an 8-Team Playoff is needed. I tend to think that TCU would've beaten a couple of these teams. However, 1, you can't lock out perennial power in Alabama and 2, you can't lock out the reigning national champion (that happens to be undefeated). Adding Mich State, TCU, Baylor, and Miss State to the mix could've helped ease the worry about somebody getting left out.....

CFB is definitely moving in the right direction w/ this 4-Team playoff though..... I think Oregon has to open up as a 10-Point favorite.

I'll take Oregon straight up, but would definitely put money on OSU with a 10-point line. They have developed into a complete team and it will go down to the wire IMO.

Yep, that's why they PLAY the games instead of VOTING on them....

The playoff didn't work....its a major step forward, but TCU got left out....

closer.....the NY-6 bowls are WAY better than the previous BCS setup

now maybe if they can add two games for a 6 team playoff?

In my opinion, the playoff sucks and will continue to do so until the G5 is guaranteed at least one spot. Don't tell me that the best out of over 60 schools does not deserve a shot at the national championship.

If a G5 schedules 4 tough OOC games and wins (ex. all SEC West opponents), then runs the table through their conference, they will increase their chance of being ranked high enough for a spot.

I wouldn't hold my breath for that scenario.

Even if they did get a reserved spot, the teams representing will be rotated among the same 3-4 teams every year (with Boise leading the pack).

So does everybody else not involved in deciding how many teams make it into the playoff. What the decision makers think is open to question.

Look at how Florida State scheduled back when they were on the outside looking in. They played a lot of name teams on the road -- Michigan, Nebraska, Ohio State, LSU, Notre Dame, in addition to playing Florida and Miami every year -- and rarely got those teams to Tallahassee. They didn't schedule like 2014 Marshall.

Florida State in those days was an independent, and didn't have an automatic slate of conference games on their schedule either. Marshall is locked into several games, and in their OOC schedule, they can only play those schools who want to play them. It's not like you can write in who you want to play and be certain those schools will be willing to schedule at your convenience.

So that comparison doesn't apply, and is pretty lame when you consider all the facts.

I've looked at Marshall's future OOC schedule and compared it with similar G5 schools. If those other schools can get at least 2 tough games, I fail to see why Marshall can't get 1. It's not like P5 schools (especially mid-tier) are afraid to play Marshall. The argument could be made that schools might dodge Boise in fear of taking a loss, and somehow they still manage to get teams on their schedule.

Marshall had some good games scheduled that were dropped due to realignment, and since schedules are often made up years in advance it takes time for these things to settle out.
