C'mon, you know that's not how government works - they'll still want to charge you an arm and a leg for the installation!!04-cheers

They need to go after all those little towns that are inside the city but aren't part of San Antonio.

The valuation of the land will also...raise his taxes!

Houston has islands too but hasn't annexed them (not to mention the ETJ, which takes up about half the metro area):

Jacksonville, Oklahoma City, Houston...all have massive land areas of 600+ sq miles of land.

That was how Nashville passed Memphis for population...Memphis has a mere 315 sq miles of land while Nashville claims almost 500.

haha ..... if the state of New Jersey did this to the northern half (approximately 65 miles sq) they'd become the most populated city in the country (maybe the world). There's 68 high schools in my county alone with no major city. 900,000 residents reside in Bergen county.

Which city is a bigger deal?

1) a city of 1,000,000 with a metro area of 6,000,000?
2) a city of 2,000,000 with a metro area of 4,000,000?

I would select #1. I'm sure there are others that would say #2.

Oh, the Meadowlands. I once stayed a couple nights in Secaucas looking for a job (and even spent some time in Manhattan).

The masses won't know the difference, which is good for San Antonio. Houston has been the fourth largest city for decades now but is just now starting to look anywhere near the part.

Some "small" cities that are bigger than San Antonio:

Miami (approx. 400,000 in only 36 sq. mi., less than SA's potential annexation)
--5 million plus in the metro

St. Louis (approx. 250,000)
--2.7 million in the metro

Atlanta (approx. 450,000)
-5.5 million in the metro

San Francisco (800,000. about 200,000 less than San Jose but SF's in a smaller land area and is clearly the most important city in the Bay)
--7 million in the metro

You get the idea, you can't go off city population alone, which as we're seeing with San Antonio can paint an inaccurate picture.

I was born in White Plains (just north of NYC). I miss the Italian food & seafood. But when I'm up there, I really miss Mexican, Tex-Mex, and BBQ. Love steak fajitas & beef ribs.

RE: San Antonio may annex 200,000 people, become nation's fifth largest city
There are some cities and counties that have effectively merged the municipal and county governance. Jacksonville and Duval Co. (Fla.), Augusta and Richmond Co. (Ga.), and I think Macon and Bibb Co. (Ga.). Also New Orleans and Orleans Parish in La. … I'm sure there are others. That's not a good idea everywhere and in every case, but maybe San Antonio and Bexar Co. would be better off if they conducted all their business under one roof.

What's the point? Here in El Paso, we are trying to get smaller because it cost the city too much money in infrastructure cost. So why are these cities wanting to get bigger?

Would the increase in population influence the television market ranking? One downside to marketing San Antonio for sports expansion has been it is only the 37th largest TV market.

I think that list is dated, San Antonio is probably in the 20's now. Either way, it will take some time for it to legitimately become the fifth last city in America or even the seventh for that matter.
