Time For CUSA To Promote Educating Our Fan Base
How Many of our CUSA fans can name seven of our Head basketball coaches? Can't blame the fans when the conference for many is so new and the longest tenured coach is 12 years at MT, the average for the rest of the CUSA coaches is probably 3 years.
How many of our fans can name seven of the CUSA Head Football coaches? Unless you are an avid CUSA fan you struggle to answer that one too.
Our conference is a rebuilt conference. To fully enjoy the experience I must educate myself, but the conference could help. I am consciously watching CUSA teams when they play a game on TV, instead of watching other conference teams. During one night I watched three CUSA teams play their basketball games. I also watched the CUSA bowl games.
However, CUSA could be more proactive. Locally, their game programs could have more than just a paragraph about the conference coaches and teams. Something as simple as one page of Q&A, seek & find, cross word puzzles, or matching focused on the coaches an teams would be helpful. At half time "fan challenges" focused on matching the coaches and teams with the winner getting a small prize would be great. College basketball is about the coach more than the player, so coaching is where we should start.
The next suggestion is longterm committment to the winning coaches by increasing their salary and their assistant's salary and when hiring a new coach pay the money to hire coaches with a winning track record instead of being the conference that develops young inexperienced coaches for other conferences. The Conference must improve to the point we get numerous at large bids for basketball. Every team must invest, believe, and act like they feel they are the next VCU, Wichita St, Butler, or Davidson; or graciously bow out of the conference. Every school's football team must strive to be the next Marshall, Boise St, NIU, or UCF.
No doubt there will be some future realignment, but I think most of the realignment is behind us; so there should be some sense of continuity. And in the future only a few teams will be moving. With success CUSA can make it hard for a school to even think about moving to anything less than a P5. And the fans will know not only their team but their conference too.

toss in the mascots for extra credit....hate to say it, I couldn't tell you either of the florida teams' mascots....
no way I could name all the coaches in either football or hoops.....hell, I couldn't name half of them....
I have finally figured out the teams now that realignment is finally settled....'13 was akin to sleeping with a cousin relative to hoops and football...who was leaving/who was not/when they were football members/how hoops worked....
yep, I'm basically admitting I'm a woman by stating this....
oh well.....

FAU is the Owls. I only know this because there are only three Owls in FBS. FAU uses the Burrowing Owl in most things I've seen. Rice uses the Great Horned Owl. Temple's Owl appears to be generic.
Oh yeah, ODU's mascot is a butterfly.

I guess I can pat myself on the back as I can name all 14 teams and their mascots (Being in the old Sunbelt in the 80's made it a little easier. Not much has changed.)
I can even name a few of the coaches, though only a handful of basketball ones.
