ECU are growing a bit faster than UH and USF right now. Tulane and Tulsa are separated by virtually nothing. I also think SMU picks off Temple on a neutral court.

Oh, please. Put this stuff away until at least February 1. Teams have played one game of a 16 game conference schedule. It's like predicting a Presidential election based on the 27-vote early tabulations of the Dixville Notch, NH precinct.

More important than internal ranking is who will get an NCAA Tourney invite. My prediction (alphabetically):

Cincinnati
UConn
Memphis
SMU
Temple
Tulane
Tulsa

7 invites would be a GREAT year for the AAC! 03-cloud9

Look at our OOC records. I think we'll be lucky to get 3 teams in. Could be just one or two. I don't see Memphis, Tulane or Tulsa making it unless they win the AACT. We only got 4 in last year, that included Louisville, and none of those other teams (UConn, UC, UM) seem better now than last season. Just don't see it.

I think it will be one or two of UConn, SMU, UC or Temple. Three max, but that's a stretch right now.

Yeah this is pie in the sky right here. I do think we get 3 in with an outside chance for a 4th depending on what happens in conference play.

UCONN's gonna have win the conference tourney to get in at this point. Free throw shooting percentage has crashed and burned from what it was last year. Very disappointed by this team.... 03-banghead

Depends if UCONN can beat Florida and/or Stanford or not. They have two things going for them.

Defending champions get the benefit of the doubt. Even before the Temple loss they were still receiving votes in one of the polls despite 4 losses.

The other thing going is the bottom of the conference will give them lots of wins from this point out. All the top teams of the conference need to do is split with the top teams and dominate the bottom of the conference. In some cases they need to win an AACT game or two.

I'm not sure how serious you are, but I just don't see how it's possible for us to get more than 3, and possibly as few as 2 in the tournament. We, as a conference, have wasted away most of our OOC opportunities.

RE: Rank the AAC today
Right now Cincinnati and Temple have the best non-conference resumes to get them into tournament with a top four finish. Cincinnati still has to play Xavier; however, wins over SDSU and at NC State coupled with the magnitude of quality game will keep the Cats non-conference SOS rather high.

Temple beat Kansas and played a large number of quality teams outside of the conference. The early conference season road win at UConn will go along way in March. A top four finish should get the owls a tournament bid.

SMU might have the best team but their non-conference resume is so-so. Wins over Wyoming and Michigan are decent victories but they lost those early games against good teams. I still believe 13 plus conference wins will get them in the tournament.

UConn has to win at Florida and at Stanford because they have already have five losses, including four outside of league play. I expect them to finish in the top four in the league and have nice conference tournament run in Hartford to get them in on the right side of the bubble. Heck they might win the automatic bid this year.

Memphis needs to win at Gonzaga and post 13 or more conference wins to have any chance at the tournament.

Despite a high RPI, Tulsa's resume is rather weak at this point. They would need at least 13 conference wins to get in the conversation as well.

Everyone else outside of Tulane isn't even close to making the NIT at this point.

This league can still be a four bid league this year. The biggest differences will be the seeds. I expect the American's best team to be seeded no better than 6 or 7. The next few teams will come in the 8, 9, 10, 11, or 12 range. Last year the American earned a 4 seed and 5 seed for their co-champions. The only way that happens this season is if someone dominates the conference with 16 or more wins.

All of those teams COULD make the NCAA tournament, but not all of them WILL (IMO)

True, since they played each other there will be loses there. And of course, an additional problem is that we currently have four teams with 200 plus RPI -- with ECU pushing 300.
