You still feel good about the chances of a sub.500 season? Doesnt sound like it.

5 game winning streak. Damn.

I've forgotten if I posted that, but I probably did. And I think it was entirely reasonable then, and still, to some extent. If you want to get *that* excited about a 5-game winning streak against *literally* some of the worst competition in the country, knock yourself out. I applaud your desire.

^^^^^^

Miserable

Yeah, you're right. That is pretty miserable to post after a blowout win when we did what we're supposed to do. But I'm still right ... this streak has been against some really, really awful teams. Just saying keep it in perspective for now.

We're you not loved as a child?

RE: I have bashed Pastner a lot this season
I have been impressed on the off the ball movement for the last few games. There are still times when we need to slow down and set up the offense but folks aren't standing still under the basket nearly as much which has driven me crazy at times in this season and others.

Also didn't expect the crowd we had given the trend over the past few games. Arrived a few minutes late (rare for me) and my buddy and I were making guesses about crowd size.

Even some life in the crowd on hustle plays today. Long way to go but the past few games have been much better overall.

its hard to bash a coach whose team continues to get better...and that is what Josh's teams have done so far in his career.
First people said he'd never beaten a top 25 team....check
Then they said he had never won a NCAA game....double check (all in the same game no less)
Now he has to get to the Sweet 16...for them to complain that he has never gotten to an Elite Eight.

His teams have not gotten better in his career here. The have finished worse in rank in every year but one!!

Houston is rated 198 at KenPom...Bottom line we are improving.

I'm afraid not. We are performing up to par with the athleticism, talent and desire of our players, not coaching. Houston at near 190 kenpom is generous. They stink.

Times could be a changing......they are still not what "we" want but they are getting better. The substitution pattern has gotten better. Point guard is still not great but between Pookie and Cunningham, Pastner doing ok.

Well admitting they are really improving is admitting that Josh is coaching them up.

They aren't trying to hear that.

This or we are seeing this team's potential. We are all pleased with today's performance. We did some good things, now let's do it against better competition (consistently).

RE: I have bashed Pastner a lot this season
The reason the team is playing better, and they are, is because the right guys are playing...in the right positions

When we were struggling, even against bad teams, Kedren was getting minutes and Crawford was playing the point as well. Powell was getting very little as was Burrell. Austin was being taken out every 2 minutes and Nick was being asked to do too much.

The reason why they are playing better is because they are being coached to play better and they are starting to get more comfortable with each other.

That is all.

RE: I have bashed Pastner a lot this season
I posted Christmas day that not only had the players began to gel, Josh was doing the best coaching of his career. My main concern was would Josh continue to improve and do what is working or would he revert to his usual status-quo style like in past seasons.

Well so far it appears he’s going to stick with his new coaching philosophy/style. At this point I'm not really concerned with our opponents, I’m looking at what WE are doing. And the players are doing some right things right.

Josh too.

I am sure that the coach and the team appreciate your concern, but I don't think they appreciate that you are taking credit for their performance.

What in the world are you talking about? That’s silly. Show me in my post where I am taking credit for their performance.

You can’t. I’m giving them credit not taking credit.

wrong again.
Coach's second year we made the NCAA tourney, we didn't win the CUSA regular season title, but we won the conf tourney... and beat a team in their home gym where they had embarrassed us just weeks before..
The next season we won both CUSA regular season and the CUSA tourney,..lost first round.
Year four we won the conference title and tourney and won a NCAA game.
Year 5 we won a NCAA game again, which while we didn't win the AAC, we did beat ranked OK State, Louisville twice, Gonzaga and SMU.
This season we should aspire for the Sweet 16, if we progress like we have.
And like it or not, that is progress.

So far yes. We are fighting through screens, trapping in the corners, and even our new guards are not overplaying allowing easy paths to the rim.

We are finding open shooters, running different sets other than mostly curls, sharing the ball, looking inside-out, running the break, and using selective presses to give teams trouble…and much more.

For the first time we are not fielding a lineup with a player playing out of position 1-2 positions up. This means we won’t have built in negative mix matches.
