LA Times: University in Alabama ends football program, angering just about everyone
http://www.latimes.com/nation/la-na-alab...tml#page=1
Quote:In the powerhouse world of Alabama college football, the Blazers have long been the scrappy underdog.
This season, there was a turnaround for the University of Alabama at Birmingham: A new coach led the team to six wins, game attendance doubled to more than 20,000, and after a 45-24 victory against Southern Miss, the Blazers became eligible to play in a bowl game for the first time in a decade.
Then it came crashing down.
Quote:"It's over," said Zac Woodfin, an assistant UAB coach and former player, who said many of the team's star coaches and players had already signed with old rivals in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi and Virginia.
"It hurts, and it's going to hurt more when people ask 'Where did you play college football?'" he said. "I was a part of a team that no longer exists."

Hope the media continues to press onwards, particularly the national media. These stories don't just tarnish UAB's reputation, but bring the BOT's precious UA name through the mud as well.
Would love it if we could get some coverage during the Alabama-Ohio State game. What better opportunity to get this news out to the football world than through the football playoffs?

We cannot afford a football team, but we can afford to pay the President the 11th best salary in America, and its fiscal irresponsible to have football. If we funded football the way we pay our President, we would have made 100 million over the last five years.

Guys please forward stuff to the author. Having dealt with the LA Times before I can tell you they're not afraid to dig into a story even across the country. They still do investigative journalism and are well beyond the reach of the usual suspects here

If the LA Times hadn't published Bartow's letter to the NCAA, would we still have a football team?

AB is correct. This new barrage we are facing is an attempt to put UAB back in its place, as it had no sense creating and building athletics and undergrad studies.
