Football Mid-Year Signees
From the Rocket Report:

There will likely be four or five mid-term signees when the second semester starts. A combination of high school seniors enrolling early and JC-transfer types

I believe that the LB from Central Catholic who was ineligible this season at Central will be enrolling early.

Yup, he graduated from CCHS just two weeks ago and will officially be a college student here at UT in a week and a half when the 2nd semester starts. Talk about a quick and dramatic change of pace.

I think we will be fine at safety with Rogers and Whittacker. I think we really need some corners with speed and cover skills. Hopefully the guys that were injured come back and provide us more depth at the position. Coaching staff also needs to improve in the secondary as well.

With at least one a year, 6'4" or taller with freakishly long arms to cover that end-zone fade to the b-ball player every team in America is starting to embrace.

If I were AZ, I'd be switching to the other side of the ball for my senior year. Some people ride the wave, successful people create it.

Looking forward to seeing Green in Midnight Blue and Gold!

BDV27, I was thinking the same thing, corners, corners, corners. If my memory serves me right, there is only one true CB in this recruiting class. Hopefully Norrills and Cole comeback healthy and are able to make an impact.

EiB, are you talking Alex Zmolik (AZ)? I think he is a weapon as a TE, unfortunately a weapon the OC doesn't seem to know how to use.

We haven't been fine at safety since 2008. Bring in some more safeties and we'll be able to turn some into corners. Agree about corners, but I'm not as concerned about getting beat on the edge as I am downfield--as has been happening for too many years.

Oops, a great target at TE but a bit slow to be a corner. My head was thinking ZO, Alonzo but I typed AZ. I meant Russel.

Now, if they'd loosen up some of the "bumping" rules in the NFL, I'd definitely look at AZ as a "corner." Smash their little 170lb bodies at the line and if they can get up, more power to em.

I'd rather turn corners into safeties... Not too many guys can make the transition from safety to corner. Its a very different skill set.

Zmolik only had 4 receptions fewer than Wilcher. Roberts started to come on at the end of the season with the great catch against UMass and a couple of TD's. Also when you've got a big receiver like Olack, it's almost like having a TE.

Though it might read like it, I don't think he was being sarcastic. I think he absolutely does want to see AZ used more in the passing game.

Russell would be dumb to switch he will be drafted at receiver after next year.

Would be really surprised if Russell gets drafted. Don't see him as a consistent route runner and certainly not a leader. Going to be D II guys with more dedication, better attitude and overall skills that the pros will go after. Just an opinion from watching him on the field and on the bench.

those are the guys who last in the nfl not the ones they draft. lance moore was all of that and crazy productive but didn't get drafted cuz he was 5-10 and ran a 4.6. he has had a long career tho.

russell has the size, speed, hands and enough highlight plays to get drafted. his inconsistency and routes will make him slip out the big money, but i see him going in the middle of the draft if healthy.

Yeah, but it seems like our corners are usually too short to be safeties (for that matter, sometimes our safeties are, too). Des being an exception. Skills can be taught, though, right?

I agree. Russell needs a big year before he gets on any NFL teams draft board. More likely to be an undrafted free agent if his results on the field don't improve next season.

Aren't corners generally faster, quicker and lighter than safeties? Does seem easier to turn a corner into a safety, by putting strength on. Not sure at that age, how much faster you can train a player. By that time, I think they either have it or don't.

Need tall and fast.

We need to be going to Jamaica man. Getting us some Bolts and teaching them the game, do a little bob-sleddin in winter.
