RE: GOP Leaders White Supremacist Connection?
Seem he may have never spoken to the group at all. He apologized but said he didn't even remember speaking to the group because he was doing several talks at the time. Looks like he may have actually given a speech to a civic association 2 1/2 hours earlier at the same hotel.

Quote: Um, That Big Steve Scalise Story Probably Didn't Happen

Hey, remember how the biggest story in every mainstream media outlet yesterday was the shattering revelation that House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) spoke to a group with ties to the odious white supremacist David Duke in 2002? Ancillary stories blossomed with lightning speed throughout the day, spreading across the front pages like fractal patterns blooming on a computer screen saver: the latest comments from Scaliese, reactions from other Republican leaders, calls for his doom from top Democrats, hard-hitting political analysis from veteran correspondents about whether the “embattled” Republican could possibly survive this devastating scandal…

Have you checked the big news websites today? Nothing. Yesterday’s top story is gone. CBS and NBC still have day-old posts about Scalise apologizing for delivering the brief 12-year-old address he barely remembers, but he’s vanished everywhere else.

There’s a good reason for that: it turns out the big story was, depending on how charitable you’re feeling, either dubiously sourced, a mistake, or an outright hoax. It fell to Betsy Woodruff at Slate to dig deeper and discover that on the fateful day, Scalise actually spoke to an innocent civic association, along with representatives from the local sheriff’s office and the American Red Cross. The unpleasant chaps from the Duke-linked “EURO” group had the room booked after the civic association was finished with it.

House Majority Whip Steve Scalise Spoke At White Supremacist Conference In 2002

Quote:Louisiana political blogger Lamar White Jr. dug up a number of posts on Stormfront, one of the original white supremacist websites, that place Scalise at the 2002 gathering. According to one user who attended the conference, Scalise -- then a state representative -- spoke to the organization at a workshop "to teach the most effective and up-to-date methods of civil rights and heritage related activism."

Oops!

Nice try, Tom. The story fell apart.

Funny thing about being called a racist, all you really have to do is come out against affirmative action.

How about you trust the congressmen himself?

Quote:Despite Knight's statements that Scalise addressed the neighborhood group, not EURO, the congressman himself both stated and apologized for his actions earlier this week "It was a mistake I regret and I emphatically oppose the divisive racial and religious views groups like these hold," he said Tuesday.

Yeah...probably a bad idea too. 03-lmfao

Can someone explain to me why speaking at a one-off meeting 12 years ago that was so obscure nobody seems to recall the details correctly is worse than attending Jeremiah Wright's church repeatedly for 20 years?

If you need it explained to you, there is no point in doing so.

Instead of defelecting, why don't you attempt to answer the question.

He can't answer it because then we'll come back with Obama's relationships with terrorists or that congress woman who uses black panthers for security.

There is no point in doing so, that's why. He's falsely equating white supremacy with the civil rights movement. That tells me he's of the mindset that whites have had the same civil struggles in America that blacks have, or that if you have an NAACP you have to have a group for whites as well, which ignores the whole point of being in the minority and facing discrimination over history. If he has that mindset he's not worth conversing with on this. Maybe I'm wrong?

He also appears to be ensconced in the fiction that what Wright said in his sermons was scandalous. It wasn't.

Sounds like the perfect leader for a major position in the GOP. They must be proud!

We have a state senator here that signed his wife and newborn up for medicaid about 15 years ago while he was making about 100k a year. His defense was that he and his wife were hardly speaking at the time (they had separated) and he can't remember going with her and signing the paperwork that lied about his income. He got reelected.
