RE: Toledo Versus Duke Game Thread
I just feel like we usually end up playing to the level of our competition. Of course when you're playing Duke, you're going to come out real strong, which the Rockets did. But then when they play teams like Detroit, they play to their level...and end up with an embarrassing loss on your home court. Or end up losing to a team such as 4-10 Oakland. Hopefully we play to OUR level of ability against 6-7 Northern Kentucky to round out the non conference slate.

About on par with Army and Elon, percentage point differential wise, final score. At the half, only Conn and Wisky had comparable success.

And Fox Sports Live "highlights" of the game was all Dook, minus Juices halftime buzzer beater. I don't think they even mentioned it was a 3 pt game in the 2nd half. They didn't even show JD's dunk!

That's the point I was trying to make earlier in the thread. Anyone who watched the game would conclude that Toledo gave a good effort and had Duke's attention. But if you look at the score in the paper, which is most sports fans, you are not impressed by a 17 point margin.

The Blade, of all entities, claimed we made Duke nervous. Not buying it but we played well.

RE: Toledo Versus Duke Game Thread
The sports highlight shows do little things like that to train its viewers to either be disrespectful toward the sub-major type, like us, or to be disrespectful toward the behemoth with the household name like Duke for even getting involved with playing a crummy opponent like us who only won 27 games last year. Because this generation of sports is all about disrespect.

But I'm going around town wearing my Toledo gear and all kinds of guys have been stopping to say how tough we played Duke last night. At the game one of our guys would make a nice play and you could hear some of their fans talking positively about it amongst each other. I don't know, I think I get more enjoyment out of genuine stuff like that than a bunch of token highlights on the sports channel. All they care about is alley-oops and buzzer beaters anyway.

RE: Toledo Versus Duke Game Thread
Didn't read all 100+ posts, so I say this blindly - I think our kids played hard and I was proud to be a Rocket last night. Sure, we've got some things to improve upon, but for the most part we gave Duke more than they expected. Had a number of comments at work today about how gritty we and how they wouldn't want to play us again in the tourney. I think we look good for MAC play, and I believe we could be an NCAA tourney upset team this season. Had a lot of fun watching that game, even if we didn't have that extra gear that Duke found in the second half.

Missed the game on TV and read this thread starting on about page 4. Did not see anyone post a score in the entire thread. A few showed the point differential, but not the actual score.

Need to send you all to a remedial course on how to post to a game thread....

Still don't know what the final score was - but I think I can feel safe in saying we lost by 17 and never led in the game.

RE: Toledo Versus Duke Game Thread
Was at the game and had a little different view on Garber. I thought that he was more than adequate on Okafor. Okafor is not going to be stopped one-on-one by all but a very few guys. Garber was OK IMHO. What Id like to know was what Coach K said to JD while the teams were shaking hands. He spent more than a moment speaking to him individually in what appeared to be a very positive way. JD had a good game and with a few more breaks would have been great. All in all a very respectable performance.
My worry is that our team does not let the post game quotes by their Coach K go to our heads. He was gushing over Juice and the team as was mentioned before. Now we have to prove him right!
