After watching games like the Holiday Bowl ...
... how can anyone say with a straight face that they hate all these minor bowls? These minor bowls are a blast, and you get to see lots of fun football games thanks to them.

Who cares if nothing but the Holiday Bowl trophy or the Pinstripe Bowl Trophy was on the line today? The teams played hard and the games were entertaining. Hell, even the Bahamas and Boca Bowls were a blast!

I love the 10 days of minor bowls before the big bowls are played. Looking forward to Monday and Tuesday's games as well! 02-13-banana

Concur. The pinstripe was fun to watch - old school, grind it out football with two traditional northeast teams. Yankee stadium is a great venue too.

I don't hate them, I just don't watch them.

In fairness, I will not likely watch Tuesday's Music City bowl slaughter, either.

That Bowl is going to grow...reminds me of Alamo Bowl/Holiday Bowl when they first started...getting the B1G/ACC/Notre Dame Tie in was huge for them

Yes, sold out yesterday and nearly sold out for Rutgers - Notre Dame last year.

It's turned in to a nice little bowl. Sadly, the Big East, which co-founded it, is gone from the picture.

RE: After watching games like the Holiday Bowl ...
It depends

If the game is between two decent, closely matched and motivated teams that both want to win then yeah it's usually a good bowl and we've had several so far. The bad ones are where one or both teams clearly don't want to be there and it shows in their uninspired play and lopsided scores.

Just gotta take the good with the bad, but really looking forward to watching the playoff games

The Pinstripe Bowl has always done well. The first three games drew 39K and the last two were sellouts. They bowl organizers were smart to make sure that they always had at least one team that could bring a big crowd.

I like all of the bowls. Hell, even the worst bowl is better than what's on the other 100+ channels.

I don't hate the minor bowls.

I hate the Rose Bowl. It has been standing in the way of progress for a long time.

I agree that the Rose Bowl was the biggest impediment for change in college football's post season. But I don't hate the bowl. It's usually a good game.

I hate the bowls between two 6-6 teams, especially the bowls that spread out the bowl season.

Bowls before Christmas are a travesty. Christmas eve or the day after are even worse.

I'd up the bowl eligibility requirement to 7 wins, with a required record of .500 or better in conference. Shorten the bowl season back down so that it runs from the Saturday after Christmas through New Year's Day.

This shortens the bowl season without taking away slots from the teams that actually deserve to be there.

40 bowls is where it should cap. No new ones only replace failing ones.

What I would like to see is doing away with ridiculous sponsor names.

Bitcoin Bowl
Popeyes Bowl
Duck Dynasty

The list goes on and on.

That's tantamount to eliminating 95% of all bowls. 07-coffee3

Holiday Bowl was the exception to my rule of thumb.

Generally I figure if a school was so disappointed they fired their coach, no point in me bothering to watch. I wandered into the Holiday and it was better than I expected.

Normally I think the games played December 26 through December 30 are the worst games. Earlier and teams never really lose their game prep routine and play pretty well. New Year's Eve and later schools usually are a little sloppy early but snap back into late season form. The games in-between coaches try to give the kids a decent break for Christmas and have a hard time getting back up to speed.

Military Bowl was exactly the sort of game the "purists" want to see go away.

It looked like it was cold yet tolerable weather. Big crowd that was into the game. Bit sloppy at times with the turnovers but otherwise entertaining.

Do I miss the old days of New Year's Day having four or five games that could determine the national title? Of course I do.

I've never figured out how exactly college football was "better" when an 11-0 AState or 9-2 Va. Tech or 9-2 UCF or 10-2 NIU (after beating Alabama, Maryland, and Iowa State) were left out of bowl games.

If the "cost" of getting teams like that into bowls is for a 6-6 to make it to a bowl, the cost is worth it, not like I'm dying to see the NBA, NHL, NCAA hoops, skiing or Super Championship of Poker telecasts that I'm missing because of the bowl games.

I don't watch every game on Saturday in season so what's the big deal if I don't watch every bowl game?
