We've beaten mostly teams that suck in the AAC (with a few exceptions). No, the sky is not falling. No, let's not fire CTT. No, our risk in getting a P5 invite is not in serious jeopardy. But folks, we are a paper tiger right now that wants to act like we're one of the big boys. We got drubbed in bowl games last year (39-17) and today (33-17) by two middle of the pack ACC teams despite our gaudy nine wins coming into those games. I don't know about the rest of you but I saw today another example of a team that when it really counted looked unprepared, undisciplined and outcoached. Hell, Frank Beamer was up in the damn press box only able to utter a few grunts and groans due to recent throat surgery. I love my Bearcats like the rest of you but I expect better from this squad. If you want to criticize me for wanting this team to compete and win when it counts, then so be it. I have been a big TT supporter but it has gotten tougher to maintain that support based on what I have seen as the "body of work" over the past two years. How would we compete in a power conference right now? Please...
Amen. I agree

And in looking at that data, I can conclude that we're generally better than our peers - peers being other G5 teams. And if we make the jump to the next level, I think we'll be generally better than our new peers. I don't know why everyone assumes we should be a competitive P5 team without P5 resources. It's just silly. Give us the resources and the recruiting advantage and we'll take advantage of it.
This. The original question is akin to asking how the Columbus Clippers would fare in the American League. This years UC squad was co-champ of its conference. That's pretty good. Why would anyone expect it to be on par with P5 squads?

No, it's more along the lines of asking how an NFC South team would do in a division that doesn't absolutely suck. Cincinnati is playing for the same title as every other school in and out of the P5.

BK and BJ raised the bar and TT will get us back up there eventually again if UC can weather the storm. Right now, I'd just as soon stick it out in the AAC for awhile because we'd not do very well in basketball either in any of them power conferences. It'll take a lot more fundamentally stronger ball players for basketball to hang up there with the big guys. I still support the Cats, but I don't want to be at the bottom of any of those leagues at this time.
West Virginia was a prime example. They were in top 4 of the Big East and then struggled for a while in the BIG 12. I don't want UC to be the Rutgers of the Big 10.
This is the kind of small timey talk that is going to kill UC athletics. Simply put: If you want to be the best, you have to beat the best, and if you want to beat the best, we have run with them.

LOL. Our basketball program is on way better footing than our football program.

We won't know until we get there. How many thought Rutgers would do as well as they did their first year? With the team we have, UC would be competitive - not sure how that translates into wins, though.
There are many factors that go into a P5 invitation - winning is just one of them. UC has a lot of things going for them and once in, our recruiting would improve drastically. It will take 3-5 years to see results on the field - just look at WVU.
We adjusted to the Big East move and will in the next.

Yes, although we lose 3 very good players in LBs Jeff Luc and Nick Temple, and DE Terrelle Hartsfield. We have a lot of bodies at linebacker to replace the first two but those guys are unproven. We don't have anyone on the roster right now to replace the production of Hartsfield.
UC's weaknesses on defense will be their strengths next year. Our secondary was extremely young. We played a lot of Sophomores and Freshmen all season. There also are a number of guys who red-shirted this year who will be able to help right away. There will be a lot of depth at defensive tackle as well.

We lose four, if you include Wilder. But, Witty hopefully comes back.
