The first part is correct. We'll see about the second.

I think we will be very much improved on offense. Good december signing class that comes in next month. Mullens showed with a decent line he can move us but he will have to fight the transfer for the starting spot (a good thing). We will for the first time in a few years actually have a tight end. Did not have a single one on the roster last season.

The ? for us is on defense. Improvement there and we can be competitive again.

Mullens will provide a much improved backup qb next year. The TCU transfer will own the starting job.

wow....good to know that's settled....now I understand the 'source' of power....

I believes and still believe that while Cato was a good QB and made plays, he had some major fundamental flaws. It is why stats aside, I see him as a system QB and not in the same league as Pennington or Leftwich.

Don't get me wrong, he was a great QB for us and his poise was astounding but his long ball was average and he tried to force it over and over. He was fantastic at calling the audible and he often made plays with his legs but also carried the ball like a loaf. He also often waited too long to take off. He was great at the short passes and corner routes but terrible at finding the post man. Again, the long ball was consistently inconsistent.

Y'all may think I am crazy but I was there to watch some of the best QBs in Marshall history. Cato was a great QB but I truly believe we will be fine without him. I guess we'll see in 2015.

Ive seen those same players. I will agree that Cato is not better than penny or leftwich, he is in their league. That is about 10 steps above your average college QB. Which is what we may have next season. We get another mark cann, and see how fast you wish cato was a freshman again. A QB graduates that sets every QB record at Marshall and you seriously, with a straight face type that we may be improved with a JMU transfer that was very mediocre in the FCS and an unproven true freshman... unbelievable.

All I've said and will say on the subject is that with the offensive weapons we're returning, any QB we start would have to be godawful to not be adequate to win a fair share of games. Whether that's 7 wins or 12 wins I cannot say, but my vote is in between there somewhere and that's a satisfactory season in a rebuilding year.

goherd24 you do understand that it's ok for folks to have an opinion different from yours without you responding with a condescending, derogatory attitude right?

I've said the same thing about Cato for four years and my opinion hasn't changed. I still believe Frohnapfel would have been the better QB. Cato was ten steps ahead of Cann and 2-3 behind Byron and Chad but we also had other excellent QBs come through Marshall as well in Kresser, Gregory, Payton, per-injury Hill, etc.

Cato started four straight years in a mostly pass oriented offense that for the most part dunked and dunked relentlessly. He was an excellent QB but had you placed other QBs is similar scenarios or had Byron started four years... you get the point. Again, Cato was good but he is a product of his environment.

If he was a product of his environment, he would be in jail. He is a special kid who overcame a lot to even be here. And he leaves here with every QB record in the books. He makes great throws and runs an offense where he makes basically all the decisions in his pre snap read. Cato has been our offense for 4 years and its been one of the best in football. You seem to be under the impression that Cato is just following orders and every call comes from Bill, and Cato is just a lucky recepient of perfect play calls all game. Yes, we played at times with a dink and dunk offense, but who would have executed it any better than Cato did? It just really irks me that we can have a guy come through and break every record at MU and pass for 14k yards and 130 tds and hear someone say "his backup was better". No, he wasn't, or he would have still been playing. Blake is a good QB, no doubt, and did well at Umass this season. But a Cato, he is not.

I apologize if I came off harsh, but i feel thats an insult to Cato, and all that kid has overcome and what he has done at MU.

MUther, i agree with you on next year. It sont take a stellar QB talent to allow us to have a satisfactory season with all the weapons we have around and behind the QB. However, i think we will be rebuilding more in 2016 than next season. We will lose all our RB, that rest of the oline, our whole secondary basically, hunter, and losing DJ and butler in our backfield will be tough to replace. As cato will be next year. Hopefully these young guys step up and we truly get to the point where its next man up and reloading.

RE: 2015 Football Conference Rankings...what do ya'll think??
We are not talking about where he grew up. We're talking about his football environment at Marshall.

I don't think I've said Cato was a bad QB. I've consistently said he was a good to great QB. I love the kid and support him 100% I've also said he's not nearly as good as many of our fans make him out to be. He's reputation has been over inflated. I know you hate to hear that but is true. Tell me when you were watching the WKU throwing ropes you couldn't tell he threw a way better ball than Cato.

Again, he has his strengths and I can said that. Making the reads and staying cool under pressure are two of be biggest. He's a winner which is critical. Athletically, though, our fans have made him out to be something he is not.
