Detroit Needs the MAC
The new bowl in Detroit features the Big Ten and the ACC. Turn to ESPN right now and check out that crowd between Rutgers & North Carolina...yikes! It's terrible. The MAC always brought much larger crowds to Detroit than either of these P5 schools. Even Florida International brought a bigger crowd when we played them in the Little Ceasars Pizza Bowl.

I don't know about you guys, but I liked the MAC playing in Detroit for the bowl season.

These bowl games are pointless games of mediocrity. Always hated them because they have NO meaning to the season.
Playoff or nothing at all.

My thoughts exactly. LCB always provided another local opportunity for MAC team fans to watch their team again. It was supported well by MAC fans.

One of the simple pleasures in life for me is to watch my Rockets play one more time this season. We are looking forward to the trip to Alabama, and I just don't give one crap about anyone's personal feelings of how meaningful the game is. I am looking forward to it. The MAC games this bowl season have been pretty darn entertaining for the most part.

RE: Detroit Needs the MAC
Not sure the Bowls in the old days had that much meaning. They were a place to go celebrate a good season. UT is doing just that in a place that actually likes to hold a bowl game. That was the only problem with Detroit. They didn't seem to care. Maybe it's because they have pro sports or maybe it's because whoever's in charge of marketing that bowl doesn't sell it well locally. But if the city is going to recover, they're not going to do it on internal dollars, regardless how many billionaires are investing. If Detroit would ever embrace that bowl, it's be one of the best.

One problem is it is the day after Christmas. Fans from New Jersey & Carolina have to leave on the holiday to get there. One or two days later would have made a difference in fan attendance of the 2 schools playing.

Announced attendance about 23,000. Newspaper reports said half that. I'm sure if you did a national survey and asked for the worst place to have a bowl game. Detroit would be #1. Of course, being the nation's most dangerous city doesn't help draw out-of-towners. http://patch.com/michigan/birmingham/wha...angerous-0

On the other hand, MAC schools love playing in Ford Field.

The other problem was that it was Rutgers and North Carolina, two teams without regional fan interest. No local interest and fans are not going to travel a great distance for a bowl game in Detroit.
