Murder City Bowl is no more?
ESPN announcers said of the Quick Lane Bowl, a brand new bowl for Detroit, so I guess this is NOT a continuation of the Motor City Bowl? Not sure I see a difference, but if they say it's a brand new bowl, I guess it is.

First shots of the "crowd" I think they would have been better keeping a MAC team in this bowl. Heck, UNC fans won't even travel to the Belk Bowl in Charlotte NC.

Had been the little Ceasars bowl. The crowd is bad! When WKU and central Michigan played there two years ago the crowd was triple what is there today and WKU had a 10 hr drive through a bizzard

Correct, the Detriot Lions actually decided to start their own bowl, so they own this new Quick Lane Bowl. They essentially pushed the old Motor City Bowl led by George Perles and Ken Hoffman off the schedule.

Long term, I think it's probably a bad strategy for them to not have some ability to pull in a MAC team.

You're right, any bowl game in Detroit should have a MAC team in it. With B10 and ACC they are setting up for less than a sellout. It will always have a 6-8th B10 team and 14 out of 15 years it will not be a Michigan/Ohio State/Michigan State or Wisconsin team.

And no 5-7th ACC bowl team is going to travel in droves on Christmas Eve and Christmas miss Christmas with their family to watch a 7-5 or 6-6 team play Dec 26th.

At least if this was a MAC team they could make the drive in one day and also have the directional Michigan fans (CMU, EMU and WMU) drive to the game and watch it and have 45-50K there.

This is where the MAC champion should get the Big 10 number 5 or 6.

Getting the Big 10 into the bowl in Detroit was a great idea until the league added Rutgers and Maryland and....well.. There you have it.

Hope Rutgers destroys UNC. UNC has a kid from Charleston, WV. Marshall was the first school to offer them. He then proceeds to take to Twitter to bash Marshall and go after Marshall athletes in multiple sports. Great player but over the edge when it comes to cockiness. Wouldn't have a single problem with him going to UNC if it hadn't been for his remarks about Marshall. He's a pretty good football player, too.

Fedora, also known as Hair Gel Boy, is getting his ass handed to him by Rutgers tonight. 37-7 right now. I love it so much.

I've (half-)joked for years that eventually, ESPN will just build a small stadium at their headquarters and bring the teams there to play the early weekday and some of the lesser bowl games. It'd be cheaper for them than dragging their personnel & equipment all over the country, and the fans won't care because they're all staying home as it is anyway.

It's not over!!! All Carolina has to do is score 3 TDs, convert all 3 two point conversions and kick a field goal in 7 minutes and they win. 03-lmfao

Ryan Switzer was never going to go to Marshall and he had less of a chance to ever go to the Who. He grew up in WV but both of his parents went to UNC Cheatin' Hill. He was UNC bound or bust.

Switzer is good but he isn't even top dog on UNCs roster.

Perhaps they should hire CMU's coach real fast to make that happen.

Marshall owned the Motor City Bowl. Our only modern bowl loss (excluding our 1940s Tangerine Bowl with Catawba) came in the 1997 iteration.

Sorry, Marshall lost the Ft. Worth Bowl in 2004 to Cincinnati. I think I blocked that game out.

The 1997 game was the night before the wedding of one of my best friends from college. The rest of the wedding party and I ended up in some hole-in-the-wall dive bar in Jennings, Louisiana, watching the game and pulling for Marshall something fierce along with the locals, who figured we couldn't be bad folks if we were cheering against Ole Miss.

Good times, good times. 04-cheers

Sorry, Marshall lost the Ft. Worth Bowl in 2004 to Cincinnati. I think I blocked that game out.

Yeah we also lost to Cincy. This is Marshall's bowl record:

1948 Tangerine Bowl... Catawba 7 Marshall 0 (Cam Henderson who was the basketball and football coach at the time was busy winning the NAIB National Title in basketball)...Game not recognized by the NCAA

1997 Motor City Bowl... Ole Miss 34 Marshall 31
1998 Motor City Bowl... Louisville 29 Marshall 48
1999 Motor City Bowl... #25 BYU 3 #10 Marshall 21 (Marshall goes 13-0)
2000 Motor City Bowl... Cincy 15 Marshall 25
2001 GMAC Bowl... ECU 61 Marshall 64 2OT (Marshall down at the half 38-8)
2002 GMAC Bowl... Louisville 15 Marshall 38 (Lousiville coached by John L Smith 1/2 half and news broke of him taking the Michigan State job at half time, Louisville coach by Bobby Patrino in 2nd half)
2004 FT Worth Bowl... Cincy 32 Marshall 14
2009 Little Caesars Pizza Bowl... Ohio 17 Marshall 21 (Old Motor City Bowl, Marshall coached by Rick Minter in the bowl game, Mark Snyder had resigned)
2011 St. Petersburg Bowl... FIU 10 Marshall 20
2013 Military Bowl... Maryland 20 Marshall 31
2014 Boca Raton Bowl... NIU 23 Marshall 52

Our bowl record is 9-3 if you count the Tangerine Bowl which wasn't sanctioned or recognized by the NCAA. Or 9-2 with the sanctioned NCAA games.

Marshall has the best winning % at home for any IA program and the best record in bowls of teams playing 10 or more bowl games.
