Asking for an end to the Fire Ray Watts chant?

That's a bold move, Cotton.

I have no problem with that chant ending, once watts is removed from power.

Don't get caught up and the chant comment. That letter is a black letter damnation of Ray Watts.

It is indeed, and the chant thing was about all I disagreed with. We need the stakeholders to speak up. The more old line faculty and administrative staff that step up and speak out the better the chances are come the faculty senate vote. We have to make it understood that this is about far more than football.

Is it possible that Ray Watts AND the system BOT BOTH fully understood the "potential of UAB football" and is precisely why that is where they chose to strike at the university? Knowing what football represents in this state and destroying it in B'ham seems to fit very well into their overall plan to reduce the school in stature. Where some were seeing the potential for matching the growth of urban schools like USF and UCF, the rural universities saw a threat to their own fiefdom's total control in Alabama?

I think you've nailed it. Probably has been implied or presumed earlier - but never so clearly stated.

I want to see the bastard hung in public myself.

If the decision was solely his as he would have you to believe, it seems like an appropriate punishment.

I'd have to say that says it all in a nutshell...And I'll be damned if I stop chanting "Fire Ray Watts" until he's just an old wise tale in ancient UAB history!

If Watts said that rain was wet, I wouldn't believe him. The appropriate punishment would have been to let that crowd waiting for him outside the football building earlier this month have him....Remember what happened to Mussolini?

I was there. They had him if they wanted him. Our Blazers showed a lot of class - he got a very loud, clear and highly obscene earful, but not a single soul raised their hand in violence. Oh, they beat on the car and rocked it a little, but that was by way of emphasis.

It scared hell out of him, witness the bodyguards and locked doors he hides behind at Admin, but he was never in serious danger.

Shut down Tuscaloosa's program and his house would've been burned down before he got home. IF he got home.

UAB people have generally been restrained and peaceful.

I think I speak for most folks when I say I don't want any harm to come to Watts. I just don't want him to be president of my school any more.

Frankly, I'm a little embarrassed I felt the need to type this post.

I'm not sure you needed to. I don't think a damn soul wants actual harm to come to the man, no matter who bitter feelings become.

There are other schools in the state where this attitude would not be universal in similar circumstances.

I'm just blowing off steam.

Everyone including the students have shown some serious restraint here.

If the faculty senate doesn't do what it needs to though, ain't no telling what would be next.

I will say this though, those who don't have any repercussions for their actions may push their limits.

Actually, I think our chances in the senate are pretty good. There has been a lot come out since the last meeting.
