With all due respect, if running a sports network, everyone should matter, whether they're contractually tied to you or not...So this is why they diss Conference USA like they do? So much for objectivity, eh? 03-lmfao

Because journalism ethics and cables news networks (ESPN has become the sports version of a cable news network) go hand in hand like toasters and goats.

when the acronym (spelled out) is entertainment and sports programming network, one should not assume ethics are involved....

it's a drag, I don't like how they promote.....but then, I don't watch WWE either....

that's where that network stands in my book......they're a fkn joke and define society as a whole....viewershite mandates that logic....

03-lmfao You are so right, though. I remember when they first hit the TV scene, they were a hot item back in the day, and they actually carried themselves with integrity and a sense of fairness/objectivity then...So much for those days now...

RE: How can you not hate espn
I use to love espn, it was going a little downhill, but then really jumped the tracks when Disney purchased it. That was when it stopped being a great source for sports fans everywhere and became a constant cross promotion network that started looking like it was being driven by people who don't really understand sports fans and only understand the tv business.

Yes, it's driven their value to unbelievable highs, but I would venture that their veiwership numbers aren't remarkably different that what they were 10 years ago. I know the number of hours I spend on the channel have dropped significantly and would guess that is the case with most people on this board.

CBS Sports disses C-USA, too. Here's a CBS Sports writer's recap of the Hawaii bowl, for example. But perhaps we can't blame the whole network for one hack who can't seem to keep lame snark out of what ought to be an objective summary. 03-wink

The teams ESPN promotes as part of their programming losing to the teams that play on Fox Sports & CBS Sports does no favors for ESPN's bottom line. It may all be just a sparrow fart in a hurricane in the grand scheme of things, but CUSA dominating the the other G5s in the post-season runs counter to ESPN's best interests.

You know good & well if any other conference were sitting at 3-1 at this point, it'd be getting a mention during every pre- and post-game show. We've all seen it happen when the MWC & MAC have had good Decembers.

Agreed! If this was a "Privileged 5" Conference doing this, ESPN would be 02-13-banana01-ncaabbs, but they03-phew like they did Marshall when they were 10-0...The killing part is, someone working for them on the air will start hollering and complaining that there are too many bowl games, year in and year out..One way to resolve that is to create an inclusive playoff format & stop treating the Mountain West, MAC, AAC, Sun Belt and Conference USA like inferior beings. They're not!

Exactly!! Great point!

Why would any of you guys assume that ESPN is going to be fair and balanced? They're just like any news network - they're going to cater to the interests that suit them. This is what we signed up for when we signed our TV deal with non-ESPN networks.

I used to be a sports fan. Then ESPN came along. I was still a sports fan. Then they, ESPN, started to tell me which teams I should be supporting. I called BS. Today I am still a sports fan. And ESPN does not even show up as a dot in my rear view mirror.

If the game is being telecast over the radio, turn off the sound on your tv and listen to the radio. That's what I do when UTEP plays on the Spin.
