Shocker throwback: Billy Donovan on Shaq in 2012 after coaching him on the U18 gold medal winning team:

"He's got a chance...He's got a great feel for how to play. He's got a big body. He needs to be a bit more serious."

It is about time he was benched. Dude hasn't showed up for a game since the 2nd OK St. game last year. Did you see the production we got in his place? King had 12 points and 10 rebounds. That would be a career game for Shaq haha

So are you saying that pastner had NOTHING to do with whats his name being in the nba? Just 4 months with bill self and whammo hes a star?

that's foolish logic in my opinion.
Pastner did most of the work!

I didn't say that. Pastner had a lot to do with it. He completely failed at developing him, which led Tarik to transfer, which put him in a great situation with a coach that could get him to the league.

So yes pastner did play a role.

And Bill Self completely excelled at developing him? Can you explain why then Tarik regressed while at Kansas? Or does that little nugget of reality deflate your arguement?

If by regressing you mean shooting the highest FG % of his career, the highest FT % of his career, and having the highest rebounds per minutes played of his career, then sure. All also done in a much tougher conference btw.

Do some research before you post.

If by regressing you mean shooting the highest FG % of his career, the highest FT % of his career, and having the highest rebounds per minutes played of his career, then sure.

Do some research before you post.

By regressing I mean facts:

PPG
Memphis - 9.3
Kansas - 5.5

Blocks Per Game
Memphis - 1.3
Kansas - .5

Steals Per Game
Memphis - .7
Kansas - .3

Fouls Per 100 possessions
Memphis - 8.2
Kansas - 12.2

And now to shoot down your supporting facts:

Highest FG% at Kansas - .692
Highest at Memphis - .689

But I'm sure that .3% difference got him to the NBA.

How about your free throw numbers?

Highest FT% at Kansas - .6
Highest FT % at Memphis - .594

Wow, noticeable improvement. Pastner sucks that he couldnt eek that additional .6% free throw percentage out of him. Although, to be honest, Bill Self did it by resting him, so he wasnt as tired. (And by rest, I mean having his butt ride the pine while someone else started and played his minutes.)

Total Rebounds Per Minute
Ok, if you had done even a small amount of research, you could see how silly your metric is. Sure, his rebounds per minute went up. But you do realize that they went up because the amount of minutes played was slashed nearly in half by Bill Self.

In summary, the numbers you listed are either in line with what Tarik did at Memphis, or increased due to his severe cut in minutes played.

So Bill Self improved Tarik Black by keeping him off the floor.

Feel silly now? You should.

You don't really understand basketball and it becomes apparent each time you post.

Self utilized Tarik to fill a specific role behind what would have been the number one draft pick in the NBA. Be an enforcer and grab rebounds in the minutes you get to play. His per minute rebound numbers were about 2 rebounds higher at Kansas than any point in Memphis. All of his other increased per 40 stats show what you should take away from this - Self identified a role for Tarik and used him more efficiently while on the court than Pastner ever did.

And understanding his role is what got Tarik a shot in the NBA, and playing a simlar role is what secured him a spot on a team.

Pastner didn't know what to do with Tarik, and they both became frustrated with each other, and then Tarik decided to leave.

Try to understand why stats are what they are and don't just blindly post them.

But back to your agenda and rhetoric...carry on friend.

Agree...no need to rehash old garbage.

Point is, Tarik is in the NBA because of Bill Self.

Nothing else to see here. Move along.
