Columbus Dispatch- Five-year-old Dublin boy sends his allowance - $1 - to save UAB
"...when the 5-year-old Dublin boy was looking at the logos of all 125 football teams, he noticed the fiery dragon that belonged to the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He decided he liked UAB football too. And he wanted to go to a game.

His dad had to break the news: UAB is shutting down its program because of the cost. There will be no more football team.

Bennett wasn't happy. He asked his parents if they thought his $1 allowance would help." http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/...o-uab.html

Somebody from UAB needs to get that young mans address and send him something special. A signed football, a helmet...something.

I didn't post anything when the news first broke, but I was saddened (but not shocked) when I heard about the end of UAB football. So, late condolences from this ECU fan. I really hate it for you guys.

Wonderful gesture on that young man's part. He has a heart of gold. Thank you, Theo for your condolences, this really hurts, so hard to watch a football game after this for me. Good luck in the Birmingham Bowl against them Gators on 1/3...

It really, really sucks. Don't know what else to say. Hopefully the players are all able to follow their passions on other teams, and hopefully a meteor lands on Tuscaloosa. I feel bad for all UAB fans, but especially those loyal ticket holders who were at Legion Field every weekend no matter what, and to the boosters who dug deep to support the program.
