Until then...He is just a head case

He's far from a head case. He's a great kid in a slump. His confidence will get better if he was told to play defense differently. Don't guard a big 20 ft from the hoop and stop playing your man so closely. Keep one foot in the paint all the time, period. Stop flashing to the top because Shaq cant play defense running toward the basket. He needs some coaching. If it takes sitting him, do it. Pastner did the right thing today sitting him.

He is has all the physical tools. He just has to make a decision whether he is going to develop them and use them or not...

He's way past following the pattern.

RE: What happened to Shaq???
A lot of reach in fouls, needs to improve on contesting perimeter shots when switching on screens and stop the smack talk/taunting opponents in close games or when we are losing.

I haven't given up hope but if his defense doesn't improve he's gonna continue to lose minutes in meaningful games and end of game situations. Rebounding and defense should be his strong point. He still gets a few blocks and causes a lot of altered shots in the paint. But at what cost?

If I was an opposing coach I'd go at him on every possession till hes in foul trouble or gives up open jump shots. And Id try to make him earn his points from the ft line or dribble and make a mistake when he's on offense.

He's not living up to the "Shaq" nickname. Aside from his below avg shooting at the line.

But really all he needs is a haircut. :-)

When someone sets a high screen he has to come out to hedge...

Now I believe that we hedge far too aggressively and too long and the guard doesn't work hard enough to get around the screen. With the aggressive hedge and the lack of awareness on the back side of the defense to help we see the screener wide open cutting to the hole.

I'm sure any of what I've just said is pretty apparent, though.

Let it be known...lol..that I am an unconditional supporter of Shaq and have a strong feeling he will get this season together.

+ BIGXII That's a gr8 point...Just as with Tarik; Some players respond better;evolve;flourish in different situations/circumstances....There maybe a coach that can teach Shaq to get the most out of his abilities....But it's apparent that he is NOT a player that is going to develop and flourish without a structure to begin with, as teaching Bigs is defiantly NOT this administrations strong-suit!

I can't jump to the same conclusion you just did. One warmup does not make a conclusion. I have seen Shaq play really well...as he did in that game agains OkST in Florida last year.

There is definitely a slump of some sort happening here. My money is on Shaq and the staff...including the staff that might be added right soon. I mean we have no Aki. Has anyone else noticed this?

No. But if he gets put on the bench and loses time to worse players (like TB his junior year), it won't do anything to get him out of his rut or become a better player.

The D has been doing well about getting a help defender over to cover the screener until the hedger recovers. I've noticed the aggressive hedging as well, but it has worked out.

We aren't disciplined enough to hedge from the paint, IMO.
This team today averaged 6 three pointers a game. To not zone them, at times, was shocking.

Garbage. Shaq can play. Just because he runs and jumps better than most on the team doesn't mean he doesn't have skill. You're spoiled into thinking every post player has to be in Nochols' mold.

^ This guy...genius! That's the golden egg right there...In order for us to compete at a certain level, especially the level that we recruit on...These players need coaching....strategic;pinpointed;calculated structure and coaching! Hell in the first game against OKSU, Marcus Smart had his team better prepared than our staff had our team...His philosophy picked apart all of our weaknesses due to scouting and film study

Hey...don't be taking my bait. lol.

I agree about cannibalizing our players, btw. I am not a fan of cannibalizing teenagers and young men. It's a path that leads no where good.
