Big 12 would look ‘East not West’ if league decides to expand
http://collegefootballtalk.nbcsports.com...to-expand/

...It’s certainly about TV sets. It’s certainly about recruiting. It’s certainly about the possibility of competitive implications in all of our sports, but particularly our high-profile sports. At the present time we have no strategy. We haven’t had any discussions around expansion. Our CEOs have said they like 10. I expect that we’ll be at 10 for a while. Could that change down the road? Sure it could… I don’t think we’re going to take a kneejerk reaction and think immediately about expansion just because on this occasion we got left out of the playoff.”

While Bowlsby expects an answer for the league’s appeal within six months, expansion might quickly develop into a legitimate option if the NCAA doesn’t approve the waiver.

The commissioner provided an initial hint of what the league might do once league expansion is back on the table.

“We have one member in West Virginia that’s on the East Coast,” Bowlsby said. “We have to be mindful of their situation. If we took somebody in that was on the far West Coast it would certainly do a disservice to our member in West Virginia. As I mentioned earlier, it may be a different set of criteria to some of our members than it is to other members. As the commissioner, I certainly have to take all 10 institutions and their sensitivities into play.”...

I wasn't being serious about UConn joining the Big 12. I was just pointing out the geography.

We don't "own" NYC. No one does. But were #1 in BB and we share the FB market with Rutgers, ND, Syracuse, and Penn State.

University of Tokyo for the lucrative Japanese market?

That is about Far East as one can get. I would love to see Pikachu advertise for the AAC. After all, Pokémon batting is similar to football.

I live in NYC. UConn and Syracuse get almost nothing in football but plenty on basketball... NYC College football is Notre Dame, Penn State, Rutgers and after those 3 is a mishmosh of B1G schools like Michigan/MSU/OSU and then Texas. After them, then is a really small mix of Buffalo, Syracuse, Army and UConn. Buffalo is really the wild card because there are so many alumni, if they ever get consistently good, they could become something special.

10% of the NYC metro area is Connecticut. That gets us a piece of a very fractured football market.

Cincy and UConn. If waiver does not get approved. Which it won't.

Book it.

This comes from a quote during the Bianchi interview and I took something completely different from it. Bianchi basically asked, "what are you looking for in an expansion candidate"?
The answer was every member has a different set of criteria that is important to them. He then used WVU as an example saying being on the east coast would be most important to them. The point was, academics might be important to some, media footprint for others, etc, etc.

I saw a UCF logo on at times square so we have a little piece of the market too. 04-cheers

Big 12 has limited choices East. Schools worth adding in the East:

Central Florida
Cincinnati
Connecticut
East Carolina
Memphis
Northern Illinois
South Florida
Temple

No he said all those things and the. He said we have to be mindful of all of our members and said it wouldn't be fair not to go east

Very loose definition of "worth" you're running with there.

Even then, LOL at UT ever associating itself with a bunch of directional and/or city schools. The only school with any true value on that list is UConn, and that just makes ZERO sense, logistically. The Big 12 would become even more of a laughing stock.

I've said it before, UT and OU couldn't care less about Baylor and TCU being left out. They (UT and OU) know that if they are 12-0/11-1 and on the verge of being in the top 4, they won't ever be left out. That's all that matters, and is the reason the Big 12 WON'T expand. The Baylor's and TCU's will suck it up, because:

1) They don't want to divide their money another 1 or 2 ways among schools that bring zero value (see the AAC and MAC contracts for confirmation of that fact, so all you smarks that wish to think otherwise, recognize that your school did nothing to up our crap contracts), and..

2) They know all that's keeping them out of the AAC/G5 is UT and OU's willful participation in that conference. If/when UT and OU bolt to the PAC and/or B1G, the Big 12 ceases to exist.
