Question for UCF fans...
I know some relatives of Donnie Jones that live here in the Huntington area. I recently ran into some of them and asked how Donnie was doing in Orlando and their response was that he wasn't happy down there anymore. Said that he was very dissapointed in the overall support for the basketball program from the UCF administration and the fans. Said he was promised some things that never came to fruition. Anybody know what that might be? I got the sense that he is looking to get out at the first opportunity. Just out of curiosity, what is happening down there? Has UCF cut back on funds for the basketball program? Are the fans not coming out to the games anymore? Just seems weird. I've always thought UCF had good support for basketball. Has something changed?

RE: Question for UCF fans...
Idk what he expected since he's part of the reason the ncaa came knocking.

RE: Question for UCF fans...
- We hired back a marketing pro/alum who will (and is already) rebuilding the Knightmare student section nicely. The lag we had wasnt just in basketball - the Tribble/Hornstein regime hurt us in many ways but we are bouncing back.

- As far as support, he got a huge contract extension while he had show cause and really no threat of being plucked away. That seems like support to me.

- I'm not holding your post against Donny as it is hearsay, but if he felt that way about fan support, he could really consider not scheduling the way that he does. And he could also consider beating FAU.

Yeah, if DJ is unhappy perhaps he should read the rule book a little closer in regards to recruiting. He made his bed with the sanctions, and have had to play with a short handed team for 3 three seasons now because of his actions. The fanbase is less than pleased with his results, primarily because of his game time coaching ability, or lack thereof. His offensive scheme is really offensive, but not in a good way. Once he was given a show cause tag, we should have handed him his hat and given him the boot, imo.

Question for UCF fans...
When the team starts winning on a consistent basis, I am sure the fan support will come back. The NCAA sanctions hurt the team and school but he only has to look in a mirror to figure out who is to blame for that.

I welcome his departure if he's unhappy.

It would make UCF fans happy.

RE: Question for UCF fans...
He's lucky to still have a job. I'm sure that he is looking to leave the first opportunity that he can get, the problem is that he has to win at UCF in order to get that opportunity. He's a recruiter and not a game coach. Hopefully he can legally recruit one more good class before he leaves.

RE: Question for UCF fans...
I think he was probably promised funding for charter flights, and we only rarely do those because of the financial situation. Had the Big East not imploded, he'd have probably gotten those.

I think the UCF Administration's view, as well as Donnie's, is that he was forced into the runner game with Ken Caldwell by AD Tribble. So I don't think he's taking much heat for the sanctions, and I think the administration believes that with the sanctions gone that Donnie can put a good team on the court. I don't believe it, but I think he's going to get the chance.

That said, if he wants to go take some Big South job, I'm sure we won't stand in his way.

RE: Question for UCF fans...
It has been a rough two seasons to say the least, but we finally see light at the end of the tunnel. Our two top players are freshman and we are bringing in another group of talented players next season. We have a really thin bench with the sanctions and injuries, not trying to make excuses but it is what it is. Donnie can't be too upset. UCF is dominating the AAC in nearly every sport except basketball. I'm sure that is getting to him.

I can say this...I'm sure he wants no piece of Marshall ever again after the way your fans treated him at his last game at Marshall.

If the original poster is telling the truth that is also low class posting a personal conversation that is translated from someone else's conversation. For all we know he were just being nice to Marshall fan by saying living in sunny Florida making $70k is terrible.

Interesting you mention the funding for Charter flights. I bet that's one of the reasons he wants out. That was one of the primary reasons he wanted to leave here. Long story short....when Hamrick (AD) arrived here he re-allocated all athletic donations, including funds that were raised specifically for the basketball program and put it all together in more of a general fund that could be used for any sport. Donnie had originally been promised from the previous AD that those funds would only be used for basketball and specifically Charter flights. That's where Hamrick and Donnie disagreed and the rest is history.

Well if you get another coach worth more than $.02 we can take them too.

Donnie has a win over #4 Uconn and #16 Florida. How about yours? I have no idea so i'll let you set me straight.

Donnie has near everything so it makes zero sense. Find a tour of all the basketball facilities, academic support, strength and conditioning, etc. Not many hoops teams have charter flights. Whole thread sounds like a whole lot of butt hurt.
