Holiday to interview at Pitt
Quote:Pitt will talk to Holiday and Narduzzi. Bradley and Schiano not expected to get interviews.
Looks like only two currently under consideration. I have to say I'm a little disappointed that Doc would leave Marshall for Pitt. Not saying that Marshall is a better job or pays anything close to Pitt, but if he has ambitions beyond Marshall I'd like to think it would be with a school that hasn't chewed up half a dozen coaches over the past two decades.
Pitt coaching search
Hopefully he at least waits till the day after the bowl game to interview. This feels a lot like the year Donnan left for UGA. Maybe we should keep Clark's number handy if this goes down. I'm actually surprised he hasn't be contacted by Colorado St. he was doing a good job at UAB even with all the distractions.

I think so, if he goes the way of so many others that tried at Pitt, at his age he's done as a head coach, it would be back to assistant coaching or retire.

I agree strictly from a job perspective. Depends on what you want, though. According to the USA Today numbers, Marshall is paying $609,820 and Pitt is paying $1,578,757. So 4 years at Pitt equals 10 years at Marshall, pay wise. If he wants to retire in his early 60's then it might make sense.

CUSA to ACC is a no-brainer.... and no one could blame him for the move.

If I were Doc, I would not have to think twice. I would take the job before you could say Rakeem Cato.

However, IF he goes there and fails, gets fired, and has multiple years still on his contract it could technically be 4 years at Pitt equals 12-14 years at Marshall. In all seriousness though can't blame him for listening but hope he stays at Marshall

I'm as big a Marshall fan as there is, but for $1.5MM a year I would drive my rear end up I-79 every Saturday and cheer for Pitt. You can't blame a coach for taking that job and he's done a great job for us and is leaving the cupboard pretty full. I just hate that we would lose half our recruiting class.

I don't blame him for wanting to take another job that pays more, but Pitt? No fan support, haven't been relevant since the 80's. You'd think he'd want to wait on a job that's more attractive.

If Holliday leaves I hope Mike Hamrick's first phone call is to Bill Clark!

I was thinking the same. Don't know the man nor anything about his history at Marshall, but it sure looks like this year was something of a perfect storm for the program. His stock may never again look so valuable.

RE: Holiday to interview at Pitt
Reminds me of Skip leaving for USF IF it happens. Marshall is set up to succeed in C-USA. Pitt is set up to be mediocre at best in the ACC. Just because a school is P5 and can offer more money doesn't mean it's a good career choice. Pitt is running through coaches at an alarming rate and I would think twice about being the next one to go there.

I think the problem at Pitt was the AD, who is now fired and gone. A lot of those coaches they ran through left of their own free will. That tells me it was not a good work environment, which usually means a crappy boss.

Im pretty sure DOC has pulled out at the moment. Pitt wanted him to interview "tomorrow" and DOC is in Boca Raton.
KDKAs Sports Anchor tweeted this earlier....
Richie Walsh Tweet.
If I was a coach of any kind I would be leery of taking a job where you have a brand new president and no AD in place.

They can always fly someone down to interview. It's been done.

RE: Holiday to interview at Pitt
If he does interview hopefully he waits until after the bowl. In 2011 Sonny Dykes left San Diego the week of the Poinsettia Bowl to interview with Houston. Then we had to negotiate a raise during bowl week to keep him. We lost a close game to TCU. I wonder if we would've won without the distraction.

RE: Holiday to interview at Pitt
John L. Smith announced to his L'ville team at HALFTIME of a Motor City Bowl against Marshall that he was going to Mich. St.
It was reported before the game, but after that, the Cardinals quit and MU rolled. NCAA should have a dead period on hiring during the 3 weeks or so of bowl season imho, just isn't fair to the kids or the institutions.
