2pm on a Friday? That's quite the peculiar time.

Especially as Jackson State played tonight (and blew out Southern Miss) and has to bus over for tomorrow.
The women have a tournament going on at night - that's the reason for the early start now that I think about it.
Better play better than we did last night, or we'll lose.
We have to play in Seattle on Monday night so I'm glad we're getting the game done on Friday.

RE: 12/19 AAC Game
Most college teams look REALLY bad when playing the 2nd half of a doubleheader. Tulane have the bench to win this game handily - but they cannot turn the ball over.
Jackson St.'s blowout win over Southern Miss is a reason to worry about this game.

I'm more worried about how we played the other night.
USM has nothing. They lost most of their starters from last year, all of their recruits, and they just had a starter and 6th man quit the team last week. Tough times in H Burg.

I'd like to play Southern Miss again in basketball. Get rid of one of half dozen stupid match-ups and put them in there.

I can't decide which aspect of Conroy's leadership has bothered me more -- the non-recruiting (unless it's his son) or the chickensh*t OOC-schedules.

When does Tulane play somebody not in the 200+RPI range?

That is a completely legitimate question, IMHO.
But just coincidentally, we play @Washington on Monday night (12/22), then play St. John's @Barclays Center the following Sunday (12/28). Both teams are ranked T25 in most polls that I've seen.

No kidding.
...well, they've played 3 teams that fit the bill - and one inside the top 100. They are 2-1 in those matchups.
Most people are predicting Tulane to finish around mid-table for a reason. We're not as good as the record appears (but I can be proven wrong!). An overall record of 20-11 is reasonable for this outfit.

Well, considering we were universally picked bottom 3, and probably, overall, last, 20 wins would be quite a feat. We go pretty deep, but we're still weak down low, and I know that will really be a problem against the top 5 or 6 teams in this league. I'd be thrilled with .500 in the AAC, although I doubt we get there.
Still, this coach schedules this way every year; we're usually 9-3 or so going into league play...and then we win 4-5 league games and that's that.
Hopefully we hold up better this year.

This.
I think 8-10 record in conference is feasible.

Why? The AAC isnt good. You all should hope for more than that at this point unless you truly see Tulane as a paper tiger.

We're conditioned to seeing teams fail. Most of us can't comprehend how Tulane are 8-1 right now - even with this schedule.
If we get our hopes up now then we know we'll melt when they inevitably get crushed.

Because the weaknesses of our team - lack of front court - and that will not play well in the grind of this league. We're thin and our front court producers don't have near the athleticism of the top half of the league. While the AAC hasn't been as strong as hoped/expected, I suspect teams will stabilize and improve. On the other hand, we do play 10 and can shoot pretty well. And the recruiting's better, especially at low post, so I'm optimistic in the future.
And there's the fact that we've had gaudy pre-conference records against bad teams before, and then reality set in - and in a weaker league than this one.
Hopefully we win today (need to play better than we did the other night) and then we face 2 good teams and we'll see what we have.

RE: 12/19 AAC Game
The scary part is that Cincy, Memphis, UConn, Temple, and SMU could EASILY all be top 25 teams come next season. This season is an uncharacteristic disaster.
The team could play well this year, improve in the summer, and then STILL windup getting smoked in 2015-2016.

Lots of moving parts at Cincy, Memphis, UConn, Temple, and SMU. They should round into form in January.

I agree this is a restocking year but the next few years should be extremely competitive.
