That's not just a casual question. One of the things I have noticed is that ESPN does a separate ranking of the top JUCO players - the JUCO 50.

The second thing I noticed is that ACC and B1G schools don't seem to be major players in this market. Each conference has only one commitment from this list (out of the 39 who have already committed). By contrast, the SEC has 19, while the PAC 12 and Big 12 have 8 each. The list of offers to the uncommitted players is likewise heavily weighted toward the SEC.

I can only assume that academic standards play some role here. Is it safe to assume that most of these JUCO's are there because they would not have qualified academically to play right out of high school?

I don't know about the other ACC schools but up until our current President and Athletics director started, VT couldn't take a JUCO unless they had been accepted out of High School. So essentially no JUCOs. That was one of the first things to change when Steger and Weaver left. We've since taken a JUCO to the men's basketball team. The football team hasn't capitalized on it yet.

Do you admit transfer students from the general student population?

Yes. I assume you mean people that earned credits at another school and transferred those credits to Tech. I believe there's a 66 credit limit.

What about from VA community colleges? If so, it's pretty stupid not to admit athletes from community colleges. Jmo.

Yes, a friend of mine could not get into Tech out of high school. So he went to a community college and made straight As and was able to then get in and transfer his credits.

It appears that the trend that has seen North Carolina's top prep players going out of state is at least subsiding a bit. NC State picked up Hines the running back out of Garner and CH got the Hughes (?) QB from New Bern.

According to 247 sports, North Carolina has 12 four star players in the class of 2015. NC State has commitments (or signings) from 3 of them, while UNC, Tennessee and Clemson have 2 each. Florida State, Virginia Tech and Stanford have the rest.

UNC has 6 of the top 25 in the class, and NC State has 5.
