Just speechless right now. He was really good for Marshall. The only president I've ever heard of that would take the time to meet and talk with EVERY student athlete that stepped on campus about the importance of working hard in the class room and getting the most out of their education opportunity.

Dr Kopp was a one in a million president. He was incredibly down to earth, a good-hearted man with both the vision and drive to advance our school in his tenure beyond what many thought possible. From the biotech building, engineering complex, IPF, veterans memorial soccer complex... Our school grew seemingly overnight with Dr Kopp at the helm. I'm truly saddened by this news. One more Son of Marshall now looks down upon us.

The Marshall community will sorely miss Dr Kopp. He was an excellent leader for the university. The man was an academic president first but he knew athletics had a strong role within the university. The man would meet every student athlete on a recruiting trip, no matter what sport. Ive seen football to basketball to volleyball players say it was one of the reasons they committed.

Its a very sad day for Marshall, the students, and the Huntington community.

I'm absolutely speechless. Dr. Kopp was genuinely one of the best people I had the priviledge of meeting during my time at Marshall University. I don't know of many university presidents that make time in their schedules to meet with students, to go play quiots with students on the campus quad, or that show the support for not only athletics, but all student groups that represent the university. It is a very sad day for Herd Nation, and my thoughts and prayers are with First Lady Jane Kopp and his family.

One of the best things about Dr Kopp is he wasn't intimidating and was very approachable. Nothing to him was to small to listen to and try and fix if it was broken. And when he arrived on campus in 2005 there was a lot of things broken. Mainly because of the last full time president.

And you are right, he was an interactive and hands on president. He didn't stay in his office or home and only show up when he was needed. It will be extremely hard to replace him. He had a mission when he first took over, in that time that mission became a passion to make Marshall the best he could. He was the co-author for the states "Bucks For Brains" program. And had already hit the 15 million dollar cap put on it. And for the last 4 years he made regular trips to Charleston to get the cap raised.

Very sad news. He was the main cog in the growth of our university on many fronts. This is a huge blow for Marshall. Seems we are destined to live in the shadows of tragedy.

Very sad news. Kopp got a lot done for Marshall both athletically and academically. Marshall was fortunate to have such a good President.

My condolences to the Kopp family, the Marshall community, and to Huntington.
