Hmmm

I'm being objective putting all data and not cherry picking.

UNC fans are saying NCAA scholarship reductions (15), the loss of four key players (academics) days before the season started, and a weird Co-DC relationship with the other DC and HC Fedora were more of a reason for the bad season, not that Koenning forgot how to coach.

One thing I have seen is that his defensive numbers have gone steadily down since his first few years. It coincides with the real birth and influx of the Spread Offense.

I think it coincides more with no longer being at Clemson but here's wishing him the best except when you guys play us.

If he had to have Clemson talent to have great defenses then where did these come from?

'04 Troy - 10th
'11 Illinois - 15th

I'm not saying he's going to bring in Top 15 defenses to Troy. But he should be able to improve on Wayne Bolt and Jeremy Rowells recent defenses at Troy. With the exception of his last season, he's improved his schools dramatically year to year, or stayed in the Top 15 as he did at Clemson.

This is a VERY good hire. Bringing back successful old Troy coaches. And Vic has been successful everywhere he has been with the 1 year exception at UNC.

It won't likely be turned around in one year but Troy will be noticeably improved I believe.

I'm also hearing Season ticket sales are doing very well.

I'd be wary of someone who has been in coaching that long and has no better options than to return to where they started unless it was a major P5 program.

Troy tried to hire him several times in the past few years, but we couldn't afford him. Many Clemson fans are still very high on him. He is a top coach and a great recruiter.

Time will tell. I'm just glad the coordinators have been named so we can on to closing out recruiting strong. We've got a conference to win...

GOOD hire. Koenning has been around the block and probably has recruiting connections all across the Southeast. I think it will be a quick turn around at Troy. With the right recruiting class Troy could get back to at least middle of the pack next year.

I am like you.....the influx with the spread really gives guys a difference as to how do you best defend,.......BUT bright side look at our recent D......Oh that's right....we did not have one to speak of so I look forward to a change.....also if you do not have speed and talent you stink in this era of whipping it around.....and if you get tooooo small then the run kills you.....

Look at FSU and Georgia Tech....D line average about 260 with FSU much bigger.....therefore no pressure on Mr. Dimwit back there and he can hurt you....so speed size and quickness gets you to be a better coach.....

So I am looking forward to new blood in system and not be so predictable...on both of the ball

This is probably the best attitude to have. Whatever he does, it has to be better than what's been on that side of the ball for Troy for awhile.

You can't really believe anything anyone at UNC says these days. It probably has to do with the coaching staff being brought in amidst the beginning of the uncovering of the scandal, but told it was done and that UNC had implemented reform and was moving on. The current coaching staff probably had no idea what they were getting into. Everyone of them is trying to get out of there and not be associated with the scum running the asylum. I imagine his heart wasn't in it for good reason towards the end, and it reflected in the defensive numbers. IMO, this was a move up for him.
