It wont be us taking them... it will be them taking us. Even with the Big 12 losing the Tejas 4, they are still the power conference and honestly if you look at overall program success, they have the better teams.

Yes, UCF did beat them in football but Baylor has been more consistantly good then UCF and you cant compare the two basketball programs. TCU, KSU and WVU would be considered the top of the football along with Baylor. Kasnas is the elite Bball team and Iowa St... well, they are fortunate to have history with the other 5.

I actually really like the idea of that conference. Its a conference that would be considered a power conference and even though it wouldnt make as much as the others, its one where I think USF and UCF could compete. The athletic budgets would be semi close and I dont see any school that would be dominant year in and year out. I sit back and hope it happens. I like it even better then just a straight invite to the B12 now.

I tend to think that a merger of the best AAC, MWC and Big 12 could look like this and be AMAZING:
(and no I didnt include any Texas teams since I dont think they would add them, even if they are deserving... and I believe Uconn will be in the ACC by then)

Big 12- WVU, ISU, KSU, Kansas, Baylor, TCU (6)
AAC - USF, UCF, ECU, Cinci and Memphis (5)
MWC - BYU, Boise, CSU, Air Force, SDSU and Fresno (6)

Two Florida, Texas and Cali schools, basketball power teams out the ass, really solid football and a conference that covers the entire continent. The new Big 16 would be a damn good conference and its one that Id LOVE to be in, more so then any conference we have been in or in the current Big 12.

as a wvu graduate, i could definitely live with the teams that you put togather when the XII folds...IMHO, the XII is going to be hanging on a thinner line every year as we approach the end of the tv contract. the writing is on the wall. its even more clearer than what happened to the BE the first time around the ACC raped us. wvu, ksu, tcu, texas, baylor& kansas are all living on borrowed time. texas & oklahoma has no worries. i don't even care anymore, i just want to be in an all sports conference with a championship game & every team wants to be in the same conference. i really like the XII but something just isn't right about the set up..(other than us losing..lol)

It's Texas' greed. They destroyed the SWC because of it and they're going to destroy the B12 because of it. I actually like the idea of staying pat in the AAC. If our teams keep getting better and better we're all going to be more nationally recognized. And once the B12 folds, we bring in the bigger name programs and I would say we get power conference status easily.

I totally believe that they are talking about expansion as an option to remedy this... but they would be smart to deny it. Of course, the boards and bloggers get spun up... but these denials don't changed what happened. And the B12 does NOT what this to repeat year after year. We can also be pretty sure that the other P5 don't want the B12 to get a CCG at 10 schools.

Bottom line, they are only not expanding to protect their pot of gold. Call it logic, greed, or good business sense, but at least this year there was a defined negative consequence. That can't continue. Maybe the playoff expands to 8 and that fixes their issue (prob not quick enough), or maybe they get a CCG at 10 (doubtful). But if it's simple greed, than why not just add teams at 1/2 shares...? any of us would take it anyway, still a huge increase. Fixes their access problem, and also fixes the WV island issue to some degree.

I bet they are talking more seriously than they will admit. It's only been a couple of days... let the dust settle and we'll see what happens. No one saw Pitt and Cuse bailing the old Big East... the most legit talking is behind closed doors.

Bottom line---through their actions the Big-12 has indicated the do not want to expand. That said, they now have an issue because the lack of a CCG hurt them this year. My guess is they will try to other options to fix the problem before expansion. I think expansion is probably on the table---but its the last option.

Option #1--Better OOC scheduling. This would have made a difference.

Option#2--Push the proposed NCAA legislation allowing a CCG with just 10 teams.

Option #3---Push for an expanded 8 team playoff.

Option #4---Expansion.

I think they try #1, #2, and #3 before expansion is authorized.

To be honest, I don't quite get the desperation to not expand... The old Big East sat at 8 FB schools for a long time, and it obviously hurt them. It's better to add schools and mold them into legit P5 powerhouses, than to wait until you are in dire straits and then look around and claim there are no 'viable expansion candidates'. If it's money, just give them a half share.

I see a lot of similarities between the old BE and the B12, and it's no conicidence the B12 was the most raided among the P5.

After watching Bowlsby this weekend I can see that comparison...it was like watching "Meatball"...Former BIG EAST Commissioner John Marinatto all over again...
