2004 Football championship flashback
Jmusports.com has their last installment celebrating the 2004 National Championship team. This one is with Justin Rascati who was JMU'S most accurate passer of all time in addition to rushing for over 1000 yards and 20 TD's in his 3 year career.

2004 Football championship flashback
Hard to believe that glorious cold night was 10 years ago. I think my knee is still sore from jumping down the wall onto the field. The after party downtown was crazy. Great memories.

Only regret I have was not finding a cab to get downtown for the party after the band's buses took us back to the hotel. We were planning to go to the hotel straight from the game, but the bus drivers had been driving some 12-13 hours that day & couldn't legally do it.

We did take over a Waffle House though & gave some Montana fans some good-natured ribbing when they came in.

We ended up at a Waffle House as well, but after going downtown. Wonder if it was the same one? We didn't get in there until about 2:00 am and it took over an hour to get served. The buzz was wearing off and we were exhausted by then contributing to little patience for the slow service.

RE: 2004 Football championship flashback
Someone from the old CAAZone was kind enough to send me a copy of the Championship game on DVD. Really need to watch it one of these days as it was before I got interested in all things JMU. Also have a copy of the 2008 App State game. I watched it for the first time about a year ago with the wife. She did not want to watch it as she was afraid it would not live up to our memory of the game at BFS. It did!!! Still the best football game I have ever seen.

As an aside, to those who haven't read Jim Irwins book Midnight in Chattanooga I can highly recommend it. Especially if you are relatively new to the JMU football scene as I was a few years ago. A great retelling on the championship year of 2004 and how JMU football got started. Think it is available through the JMU Bookstore.

I can say with 100% confidence that me and my friend were the very first people in the parking lot that morning to tailgate. We drove overnight from Harrisonburg. Got there and the lots weren't "open" yet, but the guy let us in anyway.

He's a hack.

And no I am not bitter that he played Odel Beckham and Dez Bryant against me in the semi's of our fantasy football playoffs last weekend

Whoever edited his book must have been drunk.

Also he's going to lose to GCOX in the Shiva bowl. Book it.

It was probably 1am or so & if it was with a bunch of purple-clad college kids using the drinks as mixers, then yes!

The commemorative video that was produced shortly after the 2004 season used to be available on youtube, but when I recently went to my favorites it is no longer there. Does anyone know of an online streaming source of that video?

I had breakfast with Curt Dudley and Mick Shickman at a downtown diner. Attend the JMU sponsored post game celebration at the Marriott. Kind of wish I had headed downtown to the bars but the Marriott was pretty cool. My wife took a picture of me, Mickey and the trophy. Unfortunately, the focus was not so good.

I'm not sure which one is you, but the one in the middle with the purple shirt can't figure out if we are #1, 2, 3, 4, or maybe we finished in 5th place. Probably drank too much happy juice. 03-lmfao

RE: 2004 Football championship flashback
i thought Montana fans were some of the best I've ever encountered.

met hundreds of them during the day, and almost all were respectful of our program, knowledgeable, engaged in friendly banter before the game and almost all congratulated us and said we had a damn good team afterwards and that we deserved to win the game.

I echo that about the UM fans. Great folks. We rented the RV for that game and that is still the best sports fan decision I've ever made to get in on that. One of the other guys from the RV/chest-painting crew just sent around a bunch of photos I had no idea existed and I'll try to get them up here this weekend.

Montana fans were/are great. Loud, proud, and respectful.

Can't count how many beers/drinks we were offered/given before AND after the game.

I agree, I could also say the same about Appy fans when we've gone down to Boone. I would venture to say the NDSU fans are probably people we'd love to hate on as well.

Though, I don't have any use for the ODU crowd. They remind me of Eagles fans. They were never taught how to recognize the "line in the sand".

Ha! good to see someone else sporting the 4 buck parking lot "bookstore" t-shirt!

Made it to the Marriott for about one beer and realized, nope we were done. Had been on the road since early in the A.M. after no sleep the night before, drank a sizable bottle of jager both before and after the game mixed with beers. Much better decision to get back to the hotel bar and hang out with OJF and 007 for a bit before crawling back to the room.

Loooooong, glorious day. Ha.

Montana fans were pretty great, offered beer after beer and we just couldn't hang any longer...
