You all know what Abraham Lincoln said: "You can't believe everything you read on the internet, but if it's in Forbes it's gold"

I liked this part of the article.

"In the face of widespread public backlash regarding not only the cancellation of his school’s football program, but his seemingly corrupt practices during the months leading up the final decision, Watts did take some “responsibility.”

“In recent days our wonderful community has been divided and trust has been lost. That is the truth and it is now something that requires all of us, over time, working together to repair."

Wrong.

The community is not divided, Mr. Watts. The community is united against you."

I'd even accept a written statement, since that seems to be all he's capable of lately.

I probably wouldn't believe it of course.

He would have to explicitly state that while in Atlanta he did not attend any activity or function of the SEC championship game. Otherwise he just says he was there for personal/business reasons and conveniently doesn't mention the game at all even though he might have been in PBj's suite at the Georgia Dome.

RE: Follow-up Forbes article Dec17
Watts grew up in West End. He probably grew up watching Bear Bryants football teams play at Legion Field, too, just like I did. When Watts was a student at UAB, UAB did not have football, or basketball. Watts probably is an Alabama football fan and always has been. When did he move to Birmingham to come to work at UAB Hospitals? Was it 2003? That does not mean that he decided to become a UAB football fan, then or now, since he has become president.

Watts became a UAB hospitals man, but not a UAB Athletics man. He cares more about UAB hospitals....than he ever did about UAB Athletics. Otherwise he would never have used CarrSports as an alibi to discontinue UAB football. If he was a UAB Athletics man, he would have done everything in his power to bolster the UAB Athletics Program and not destroy it.

I believe the photo "is" him, returning from an Alabama football game.

I also do not like Ray Watts. Gene wouldn't have liked him, either. In fact, I can just picture Gene tearing off his "green blazer" and verbally attacking Ray Watts, technical foul or not, and berating Ray Watts for what Ray Watts did to UAB destroy UAB football and to UAB Athletics.

In all my years around Gene Bartow, I never once heard Gene say a curse word. With the exception of "crap", and that is exactly what Ray Watts has proven himself to be, crap(something of extreme poor quality). The second meaning of crap is "excrement". I won't even go there.

Good article and who here don't believe Watts was capable of destroying UAB football one day and cheering for Alabama football the next day. Raise your hands please. I believe it was him on the flight back from the SEC championship until proven differently.
Oh hell yes I am almost tempted to create a twitter, facebook and other social media acct , just to send that photo out. All I have to do is give Forbes Magazine credit and there you have it.
Perception is everything, not reality.. And like the saying goes, a lie travels half way around the world before the truth gets its pants on.
War isn't fought by the timid or the PC, its fought to win and at all cost.
I would have hoped if nothing else Watts proved that when he killed the football team.

I think the point is it doesn't matter what you believe about him going to the SEC game (hell, I believe he could have been there). There is no proof that he went to the game and it should not be presented as fact.

I have heard from someone who is:

1. Someone I trust
2. Someone who might know
3. Not a fan of Ray Watts

That Watts was not at the $EC championship game. His words, "Not even Ray is that stupid."

Maybe the question to be asked is "Did you sit in the BOT's skybox at the SEC Championship game?

Thanks, but I know the point, but it still doesn't change the facts that Forbes reported it, in jest or as fact, doesn't matter, Watts and those who support him don't care about facts..
If Watts and his supporters cared about facts, we would be signing football recruits instead of placing our players at other schools.

Truth or not, perception is reality. Until they start opening their mouths to discuss the situation, what is being reported will be the truth.

That photo has made the rounds and started doing so within minutes of its capture. I've shared it on fb and twitter myself.

I don't care if that's what he was doing or not. The fact that he left a city grieving after his ridiculous decision and flew alllllllll the way to Atlanta (fiscally responsible, I mean who can be bothered with a few hours in a car?) instead of tending to his University is disgusting, and if he can be painted with a crimson brush when he should, more than ever, be wearing green and white and gold then good.

I'm just saying, if it was me, I'd have come out long ago and said that I wasn't there for or at the SEC game. Of course, I actually wasn't, so I don't have to worry about more evidence coming out to the contrary.

To be honest I might have thought of something along the same lines, but I sure wouldn't have posted it on this board at this time.

I am on the side of UAB athletics. I am not on the side of people who are on my side and jump to conclusions based on sketchy evidence. It makes my side look bad.

I am also not on the side of people who are so shortsided that in order to get football back that they destroy the rest of athletics.

I am also not on the side of people who constantly call out the allegiance of others.

I thought the same thing, MB, when I saw the link to the photo... it discredits his entire article if the photo is untrue.

This. Someone should email the author and tell him tk take that down if he has no confirmation.

See, here's the difference. I've got no problem saying that what you said is an absolute lie, a falsehood, a prevarication. He can't and/or won't do the same.
