This PR firm is wrong. There is nothing Watts can do to salvage respect at this point.

Resign now.

RE: PR Firm Says Watts Need to Move Quickly to Save His Presidency
When a person like Watts totally mishandles what will probably be one of the biggest decisions he will ever will make in his job, I simply don't understand how he can ever regain the trust of those under his leadership. It is very obvious that for what ever reason Dr. Watts decided early on that he was going to do away with UAB football and he did everything possible to not let anything interfere with that decision. That explains his secrecy, misleading information and even outright lies. He has accomplished his objective. Assuring everyone now that in the future he wants to engage in open and honest decision making while at the same time refusing to reconsider the decision already made in a secret and dishonest manner insults the intelligence of everyone involved.
