Financial Impact on Birmingham and Metro
Somebody needs to do a serious study of the financial impact on the closing down UAB football has on the Birmingham Metro.

I suspect this is being done.

It needs to be studied at several levels of shutdown. The same signs that telegraphed football's demise are there for the undergrad side (like, no new building projects beyond those started under Garrison).

RE: Financial Impact on Birmingham and Metro
The apartment / retail developments that may be shelved won't show up as directly affected except in conjecture of "what might have been". These developments take time to work from conception to planning, to designing and then to building so a break down anywhere along the line can be blamed on many factors. Time will tell if there is any need to worry for developing from the UAB area over to Lakeview. One certainty is that any perceived weakness in the growth plans for UAB will NOT be helpful to growth of the whole Southside from 32nd Street to I-65 and from Powell Ave. to Red Mountain.

I would buy at least three Good People brews before every game at an OCS. $15 x 6 games = $90.

Wish the UAB football foundation would come out in front and get an independent study commissioned. One that looks at loss of conference affiliation, impact on local businesses, impact on overall giving to athletics and the university, loss of jobs in the community directly related to a loss of football, etc.

Anyone know if the football foundation plans to have anyone look at this?

RE: Financial Impact on Birmingham and Metro
I would hope the City and JeffCo officials are conducting one. That would carry the most weight for any argument. Contact those standing with us on this and ask the question. Living in GA, I'm no longer a constituent so my questions carry little weight even though I'm in Bham 2 weekends a month, at least, spending money. The loss of football would limit my trips and spending for those weekends.

As long as it's not Carr & Associates! They've done enough damage already.

I have been asking them. They have a Twitter account and an email address, birmingham4uab@yahoo.com, I think is the email address.

Maybe their website will feature some updated information. I'm going over there in a few minutes to see.

I don't want them to do it either, but I think it would be interesting to see what they come up with if you don't give them any stipulations.

We should get the media asking Carr Sports what their take on the study shows. I wonder if they would say the same thing Ray is?

Yep, food and drink at pubs/breweries before or after each game. Iron City, Rogue, On Tap Lakeview, Slice, Good People, Trim Tab, Cahaba Brewing, Hop City, Jim & Nicks, Mellow Mushroom.... all will now not have the business my friends and I would have brought them on Saturdays in the Fall.

I'll likely go fishing or maybe take a bike ride instead. Two things that are free and don't feed the economy of Bham or UAB.

For what it's worth, Whitmire has reached out to UAB for all invoices, correspondence, and related docs between the university and Carr. Spokesperson said he could expect them at the end of the week.

I saw that. I just wanted to get Carr on record saying they agree or disagree with either what is being reported about their study or with Ray's decision. Push them into the light and see if they are willing to risk their reputation on what Ray is doing.

Good luck with that one...Hasn't it been reported or said that they too, signed an NDA? After the feedback they've gotten on their webpage from us in recent weeks, you'd think they would, but it would appear they got their 30 pieces of silver just like Mackin did.

Eh, I dunno. Couple interns with a sharpie and a shredder should have the adjusted documents out in time.
