Russian Economy in Meltdown Mode
Interesting day today over in Rossiya.
Ruble started today at 58. Crashed all day, despite multiple RCB interventions. Hit 66 at one point.
Russian Government then raised the discount rate by 650 bp to 17 percent.
All that did was move the market back to 60 and some change.
This pretty much guarantees a serious recession in Russia. And all it bought them was half a day of losses.
Are currency controls next? There's not much more they can do. They've already flushed 70 Billion USD down the toilet trying to defend the Ruble. Their discount rate is now 17 percent. One more day like today and they're going to be in a serious pickle.

What? Putin wants the Soviet Union to return from the grave. That is the last thing the "righties" want to happen.
There's no love for Putin on my side of the aisle.

Actually I suspect Russia's been funding some of them. We shall see who gets their funding pulled. FRC, World Congress of Families, NOM, would be my guesses (they have known ties to Russia). The Russians got busted funneling 10 million Euros to Le Pen, and Jobbik in Hungary admits they take funding from Russia. UKIP is also rumored to be funded by them in part.
To be fair, Russia tries to fund some groups on the quasi-left too. Mainly anti-fracking groups in Europe. But most of them won't have anything to do with Putin because of the anti-gay and anti-human rights stuff.
At any rate, Putin is going to have less money to fund the Euroskeptic parties and the anti-fracking, and the the anti-Gay groups now.

World Congress of Families and NOM (Brian Brown) have known links to the Kremlin. FRC is tied into that group too although the ties are somewhat less obvious. The funding for Le Pen and Jobbik is open.

This might be a good thing or it could make them desperate and dangerous as a result.

OK, if you say so. Of course you lefties are consumed with slobbering over Palestinian terrorists when they murder babies and those peace loving Islamists cutting heads off.

Almost anything bad for Russia is good for the U.S.
Maybe now they'll stop entering Swedish territory with their planes and subs.

RE: Russian Economy in Meltdown Mode
I think Putin finally pushed Obama too far and he quietly began pushing back behind the scenes. Now its hurting Putin.
Better late than never, but it took almost his entire 8 year term. And we gave up way too much the get here imo.
But I'll take the current issues Putin is facing and be happy he knows we still have a pulse over here. Obama does not like to be embarrassed or made a fool of, and Putin made a fool of him a lot the last few years. Obama finally got mad.
I want our missile defense system back over there. I wonder does Obama feel stupid about that stuff now?

I imagine Venezuela, as well as, other nations too dependent on oil, are hurting as well right about now.

Venezuela's been on meltdown for the past couple of years... It's where Russia is heading again (they've been in this situation before) if they don't find a way out of this mess they're in.

Do you even have a functioning brain? If he was funding anyone, if he pulled funding from people, he'd have more money, if anything, to fund groups against homosexuals. I don't know if you tried to fail at trolling with that post, but I hope you did. If not, you're as bad or worse at trolling than UM2001DRAG. Yall are both mentally ill.
