I love Utah. Had a wonderful time in Provo for the UCF-BYU game beyond the final score, and I've been out there on vacation a few other times. Wonderful scenery, Salt Lake is a cool city too.

My guess is that BYU, Air Force, and Colorado State would -- all 3 of them -- prefer to be in a league with San Diego State (or UNLV, or New Mexico, or Fresno State) rather than Boise State.

And I think all of the current AAC members would feel the same way.

All the MWC teams would go where the money and prestige is at. CSU is dead set on being big time and even though they have strong history with some of those programs, they also have a payment due each month on their future $200 million stadium.

I really like the idea of SDSU and Fresno, but how far do we really want to stretch this conference?

If we can, we should get BYU and then go after Boise St. BSU is a pain and the MWC isnt in love with them but they are the face of that conference. Take them and you take the guts from that conference and they lose a ton of value.

At that point, the AAC IS the 6th best. No question. The money would be higher and taking two more teams would be like shooting fish in a barrel. Over the past few years, the best teams left in the MWC are Air Force and CSU. I also tend to like the setup of having two of the service academies and wouldnt mind working out a 6 game a year agreement with Army.

SDSU and Fresno basketball is great, but they also dont perform very well in the tournament. If we had two more slots, then Id say go for it but in truth I dont think any school has enough time and resources along with coaches to actually recruit Florida, Texas and California.

Agree. And, if they say yes, it might just flip Ohio State.

And who knows which way the dominoes fall. UT would supplement the Houston and Dallas markets. Ohio State would supplement Cincinnati, and a nice chain reaction may follow:

Tulsa -> Oklahoma
Tulane -> LSU
Memphis -> Tennessee
Temple -> Penn State
UCF/USF -> Florida/Florida State...

My head is spinning, just thinking about it.

We have nothing to offer them as a conference because they already just schedule the handful of teams in the league that they want to play.

I want BYU even more now! I'd buy tickets to the annual BYU/Memphis royal rumble. Seems a few people got their magic undies in a wad!

I believe I'd fly to Memphis just to watch you guys rematch. This game was a battle and a imagine there'd be some bad blood boil over after this.

I think BYU would make a great addition to the conference. Post-game scuffle aside.......those things happen sometimes.

Our game in Orlando was played without any such brawls.

I'd welcome BYU in a heartbeat.

RE: Would you consider adding BYU?
What the AAC offers BYU:

- a slightly better basketball conference that has a few more strong teams (although we have underachievers as well)
- a stable route to scheduling football games
- some good bowl tie-ins that would appreciate adding BYU
- a TV deal that has good exposure (although it lacks in $$)

What BYU offers:

- a gateway to the west
- a good CFB brand
- a basketball team with a good RPI (usually in the 35-75 range - they are no power but won't hurt anyone's at-large chances)

Give it 2-3 years. It looks like good business on the surface.
